Let’s not forget… [Randy Paul]

As the accolades and attaboys come in for Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) standing up against the continuation of NSA surveillance, we would do well to remember that this is a man who believes the GOP created ISIS.

While many candidates are saying that “knowing what they know now” they wouldn’t have supported the Iraq War, Paul went a step further and basically gave an updated version of his father’s view of 9/11; a view which received gasps and boos from the audience when Ron Paul espoused it during the 2007 Republican primary debates.

Those gasps have turned into agreement and head nodding among a war weary and increasingly libertarian-leaning Republican party.

As far as I’m concerned, Rand Paul’s view of ISIS and our role in “creating” them is pretty much a deal breaker. It shows such an uninformed and naive view of radical Islam that it makes me expect President Paul to be as dangerous as a President Obama in this regard. In fact I’ve reached the point where I question whether Obama might actually keep us safer than Rand Paul would.

Based on Governor Bobby Jindal’s remarks when he joined ABC this morning, I’d say he’s coming out where I am on this.

It’s not even a question of whether or not you supported the Iraq war then, or if you would still support it now. Had I known President Obama was going to come in and undo all the gains made between 2006-2011, I probably wouldn’t have supported going to war either. Because frankly, what’s the use of fighting a war that our leaders won’t permit us to win?

But Paul isn’t simply second-guessing the original mission. He’s providing a window into a view that ignores the nature of evil, likely because he’s too “nuanced” to believe something as archaic as “evil” exists.

It’s a view that is born from the same moral relativism that guides the foreign policy views of well-known idiots like Janeane Garofalo. The same ones that have bumper stickers with bits of wisdom like “one man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.”

Saying the GOP “created” ISIS is essentially the same as saying they have a justification for existing. As though to say they wouldn’t have NEEDED to exist if not for our meddling or bombing or whatever hippie language he would choose to use.

His view has no place in the post-9/11 world, much less a world that just saw an ISIS attack in Texas a few weeks ago.

He showed himself to be part of the blame-America first crowd that we on the right have lamented for years. He’s Ron Paul in a better suit and less crazy in his voice.

And I thank God that he will never be our president.

Not sure I like the answer by folks saying they “wouldn’t invade Iraq now” knowing what they know now. The better answer is, like what this guy said, “If I knew Obama would reverse all our gains.”

There is no reason to be ashamed of the Iraq war. Letting the Left pressure us into feeling shame for it is basically letting them conquer the narrative and re-write the history of that conflict.

As far as the NSA is concerned, Rand Paul would be a lot more effective if he had gone after the justifications for domestic spying. We’re importing muslims and have a wide open border virtually assuring there are terrorists among us.

Had he done so he might have been able to do some actual good. Instead, he grandstands and has morons believing that the NSA simply closed up shop and quit the domestic spying.

Regime change created power vacuums in the Mideast. Meanwhile, the US armed, trained, and financed rebels to be friendly to us, and continues to do so. ISIS took advantage of all of that, and used their assets and knowledge to form a truly evil in all respects entity. The US did not disintegrate them when having the chance to do so.

So how are we not responsible? The regime change mentality actually goes back to George 1 in Iraq, Clinton in Yugoslavia, then on steroids with George 2 and Obama.

>>we would do well to remember that this is a man who believes the GOP created ISIS.<<

Did we not create one of the most cruel, sadistic men in Iraq...Saddam and his evil sons? Did we not create the Iranian revolution? Did we not arm Islamist factions in Libya that then turned weapons against us and kill our ambassador?

Rand Paul was speaking about middle east policy run amok, not so much as we created this evil plaguing the land. It is failed policies that give rise to psycho nuts with really really advanced weaponry.

When trying to defend something you need to first make sure that the accusation is even legitimate.

Here is what Paul said...."ISIS exists and grew stronger because of the hawks in our party who gave arms indiscriminately, and most of those arms were snatched up by ISIS. They created these people"

He did not say that ..."the GOP created ISIS".

He particularly calls out "hawks in our party who gave arms..."

To think that ISIS could have taken over as much territory as they have without any advanced weapons is very naive. Paul is objectively right.

Of course he said the republicans created Isis, you quoted him.

“ISIS exists.... because of the hawks in our party”

Are you missing the “the hawks in our party who...”?

He is blaming it on specific individuals who supported a particular policy (indiscriminately giving weapons to Sunni Islamists) and who also happen to be in HIS party.

Basically, he is pointing a finger at McCain and Lyndsey Graham, whose criticism of him prompted this statement on Morning Joe.

“ISIS exists.... because of the hawks in our party”

He is blaming it on a political party, the republicans.

Not the democrats, not Obama, not the left, “our party” created ISIS.

“Our party”? What are you, an RNC shill? I’m a conservative, not a Republican and Rand is right. The McCain’s and Grahams of the GOP played a strong part in its creation

Are you an idiot, you don’t know that QUOTE is what the thread is about?

I was quoting Rand Paul, “our party” Rand Paul is a republican, running to be the nominee for his party, which is the GOP.

So if I said, "ISIS exists because of the libs in our country doing xxxxxx...."

Would I be blaming it on "our country"? Or would I be blaming it on the misguided policies of some "libs in our country"? Also, the responsibility of the Obama administration is implied. The "hawks in our party" can not unilaterally "give arms indiscriminately" to jihadi groups. They advocated for the Obama administration and supported them as they did it.

That isn’t what he said, he said that “our party” created ISIS, Republican party leaders created ISIS according to Paul.

Not the democrats, not the left, not Obama, not even ISIS itself, the GOP did, is the message that Paul is delivering to the American public.

Im not sure what you are referring to.

If you are referring to my comparison to libs and country, it is an analogy. X is to Y as A is to B. If you take out "libs" and "country" and put in "hawks" and "party" it is the same notion. Am I blaming our country or am I blaming the bad policies of libs? Compare that to what he said. Is he blaming the party or is he blaming the failed policy of hawks.

On the other hand if you are referring to the part where you claim he doesn't blame Obama, that is ridiculous. Paul and the people he was talking to at Morning Joe know who is in the White House and they are knowledgeable enough about how government works to know that one party in congress can't actually give arms to a foreign group themselves.

Let's break this down...

1.) Paul is attacked by Lyndsay Graham on National Security grounds.
2.) Paul is asked about this attack on the Morning Joe show.
3.) Instead of attack Graham back directly, he lumps him in with other "hawks in our party" who he believes have contributed to the threat of ISIS.

I distinctly remember reading FR and seeing images of John McCain arm in arm with either jihadis or actual ISIS members (depending on who you ask). You must have been offline for all of those weeks.

Do you think giving arms to the jihadis was a good idea?
If not, why?
Is it because it helped ISIS become as powerful as they have become?

I'm glad to know that when there is a scuffle between the McCain/Graham side of the party and the Paul side of the party, you side with the former.

If you don’t see this GOP presidential candidate blaming “our party”, as telling the general public that republicans created ISIS, then you are blind.

Purposefully so.

So, do you agree with the decision to give arms to the jihadis in Syria?

If not, why not?
