The National Science Foundation (NSF) is helping fund the creation of an implantable antenna for health care, which could be used for long-term patient monitoring.
The government has so far given $5,070 for a graduate fellowship to work on the project, which begins June 1.
The project is being financed in collaboration with the National Research Foundation of Korea to create a high frequency antenna that can be permanently implanted under a persons skin.
Antennas operating near or inside the human body are important for a number of applications, including healthcare, a grant for the project said. Implantable medical devices such as cardiac pacemakers and retinal implants are a growing feature of modern healthcare, and implantable antennas for these devices are necessary to monitor battery level and device health, to upload and download data used in patient monitoring, and more.
The grant said that an implantable device could be used for long-term patient monitoring and biometric tracking, or using technology to verify a persons identity.
Despite their potential use in long-term patient monitoring and wireless biometric tracking there is limited research on [Ultra High Frequency] UHF [radio-frequency identification] RFID for insertion in high-loss human body environments, the grant said. This research will greatly benefit from procedures already in place at Dr. You Chung Chungs antenna lab at Daegu University in Daegu, Korea.

While recent history has shown that the intelligence of the American people is unquestionably something not to be counted on, acting with an appalling lack of good judgement, common sense akin to being ethereal including having shown an overwhelming inability at self-preservation, there are some things they're far too keen to fall for.
An "implantable body antenna" (with an easy, simple method of implantation surely the device, method of implantation as suggested by the president)has got to be by far the worst, most extreme, hare-brained governmental idea ever conjured up in the name of science.
Given the history of science and governmental collaboration, the device itself would surely prove to be prone to error and mishap. But it's not the invasive attempt at keeping tabs on america's health that gets me, its the very brazen idea of just such a cockamamie device being concocted by scientists in collaboration with the government with such abject brazen temerity, the unctuous clueless stupidity that Americans would not be in opposition to having an implantable antenna inserted int o their bodies for scientific reasons as excuse the reaction to which that boggles the mind.
As second choice, I suggest all Americans be wired the way tracked animals are. Instead of having it inserted internally, let them place the antenna on a device hooked to a fixed location on top of the head.
Antenna-Man
coming to a theater near you!
I see an Arnold Swartzenegar film in this âAntenna-Man!â
I had a FReeper jump all over my back a few months ago for daring to raise concerns about such things. I can handle differences of opinion but the level of discourse around here has been taking a turn for the worse with so much infighting.
Glad to see others aren't so pleased to be "plugged into" the internet of things.
My mother has an antenna implanted.
Within a few minutes the technician can download her heart/pacemaker history and make adjustments and recommendations.
Really cool.
Do they have one of those so I can listen to Rush and Levin?
ahahaha See Post Number 3!
THE TELE TUBBIES are COMING..THE TELE TUBBIES are COMING!
What could possibly go wrong?

ROFL Wouldn’t it be cool. Imagine walking around listening to Rush and Mark Levin, that sure will make every liberal head explode.
I got your Implantable Body Antenna right here!
(cough) sorry. disregard.
Will it pick up old broadcasts of Sing Along with Mitch?
YOU WANNA PUT A CHIP IN MY WHAT??????.........
Ankle bracelet.
My dentist once joked that he was implanting an antenna inside my tooth before mounting the gold crown.
