“MADISON — State Superintendent Tony Evers formally adopted the newly released Common Core State Standards for English language arts and mathematics today for Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin is ready to make the Common Core State Standards its academic standards for curriculum, instruction, and assessment,” Evers said. “These standards are aligned with college and career expectations, will ensure academic consistency throughout the state and across other states that adopt them, and have been benchmarked against international standards from high - performing countries.”

Evers exercised his authority under Article X of the Wisconsin Constitution to adopt the standards. Adoption by the state superintendent is referenced in the state’s Race to the Top application which was sent to the U.S. Department of Education on Tuesday....”

Scott Walker the ability to halt administrative rules by state schools Superintendent Tony Evers, who is independently elected.

The ruling by the Madison-based District 4 Court of Appeals upholds a 2012 decision by Dane County Circuit Judge Amy Smith.....

Their ruling, which took more than two years to render, upholds the 2012 decision by Smith that blocked the law from applying to the Department of Public Instruction. This announcement came yesterday as part of the Governor’s workforce readiness plan and will be included in the two year budget proposal expected in early February.

The measure has already been criticized by the Department of Public Instruction and comes after State Superintendent Tony Evers warned on Wednesday of this week that what he calls “divisive mandates” on public education were on their way.”

Not that anyone with kids in public schools will give a damn, since they unable to comprehend just what those schools are about, but I do find it interesting that ONLY ONE TOWN in the entire state sees a problem with Common Core, only one town - even after all of the kicking and screaming, and not just from conservatives.

To me, that tells me who runs the schools - but WHO CARES - THEY ARE FREE, and I really need the money I save to buy that really big truck, or boat...

This guy is so good. He takes the liberals’ worst assaults as if they were a mere athletic challenge and he is decathlon strong. Can we get more politicians like him? If all Republicans were made in this mold since W. was in office we would not be in the mess we are in as a nation. Administrative Rules need to be under the purview of the Legislature. Rules making authority unchecked can pretty much bypass scrutiny, and make you an all powerful unchecked entity.

Our Wisconsin state GOP convention was held last weekend May 15th, 16th, and 17th in LaCrosse Wisconsin.

Amoung the resolutions passed which in effect instructs party members in the legislature in both the State House and Senate how to vote . Was one supporting Walker’s effort on Common Core and one which calls for the nullification of a 1930’s great depression era law requiring any taxing body in the state, county, or municipality to pay a “prevailing wage” which is top scale wages determined by DC ,(Which btw prohibits donations of labor or material.) for any public project .

Too little attention by the media is given when both political partys make these resolutions. But they tell you where and what direction that group is going.

Such as the 2012 resolution by the so called democrat in name only party to remove any reference to God. Which because they don’t believe in Him or the 10 Commandments besides steal also lie so much.

The first sentence says "Gov. Scott Walker's proposal prohibiting the state superintendent from forcing local school districts to adopt Common Core academic standards is up for a vote".

The two descriptions of the proposal are mutually exclusive. They both can't be true. The proposal cannot be both a ban and a prohibition on enforcement.

(Of course, given that this is the media we're talking about, it's entirely possible that neither is true).

Interesting that it took Walker over 3 years to directly address Common Core. Not as bad as Jindal, who actually took the bait, but not as good as Perry, who came out swinging from the start and never permitted it take root here in Texas (although it has anyway, by backdoor means).
