Megan doing a good job reporting on Fox - she was just finishing her show and kept on going with reporting. She’s now been on for an hour extra and probably will be until they wake up Shep.
Hard to imagine there won’t be fatalities. I remember the day of the OKC bombing, first hour or so radio guys spoke of the “miracle” that no one was killed. (I’m not too comfy, booked as I am on Amtrak this Thursday morning)
@PhillyPolice: “Attn Public - Do NOT go to scene of #derailment. Please allow 1st responders room to work”
Im certain that youre even more anxious than I am about getting whatever details will be...released on this “accident”
I do hope that it was “only” an accident
9 of those 17 (not a big number itself in 10 years) were not the RR’s fault. Cannot be helped.
7 of those were idiots on the track, not respecting RR which is typical.
1 was “sabotage”, though I do not remember what that would be. The other, the big accident, was an errant barge pilot damaging the bridge the RR would cross before anyone knew what was going on.
As for the number stats, notice these are not defined strictly. The first notes “highway” - i.e, dummies on the road. The 2nd chart indicates casualties, which strictly speaking does not simply mean fatalities, but “wounded and killed” as in war. Either way, the numbers sometimes represent again, people getting near the RR by trespassing on the tracks personally as well as automotive-wise. They do not necessarily represent passenger casualties, but peripheral as well.
It seems the first car is totally mangled and that coming from a passanger in the third car.
NBC Philly:
U.S. Senator Tom Carper (D-Del.) was also on the train though he disembarked at the Wilmington, Delaware station about 40 miles south from where the train derailed.
“I am grateful to be home safe and sound in Wilmington, and my heart goes out to all those on the train tonight,” Carper said. “I hope all of those that are injured recover quickly, and I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers.
Here is a short video of passengers getting off:

Indeed, they did not look like Acela. Just standard cars. Maybe a double-decker but not sure. (Nightime, lousy light.)
a Former Congressman was on board. No news if there are current Congresscritter on board.
“Among the passengers was former congressman Patrick Murphy (D-PA), who was able to tweet”
“Senator Tom Carper (D-DE) also traveled aboard Train 188 tonight, but exited at the Wilmington station some 40 miles from the accident site.
northeast regional. not going very fast? NBC says 188 which would have left philly at around 9:09 PM
Hopefully, Shep will be “indisposed”.

Sounds like they’re either looking for terrorism, or suspect terrorism.
