Washington (CNN)Jeb Bush says he thinks he can sell the Republican base on his position on immigration -- and he's hitting opponents who have changed their positions on the issue.
"I get a sense that a lot of people can be persuaded, to be honest with you," the former Florida governor told Fox News in a preview of his interview with host Megyn Kelly that aired Sunday.
Bush has urged a respectful tone toward undocumented immigrants and has said it should be easier for those immigrants to gain legal status.

That position is anathema to much of the party's conservative base, which opposes "amnesty" in any form -- particularly the executive actions President Barack Obama has taken to allow immigrants who were brought into the United States as children to stay, as well as the undocumented parents of U.S. citizen children. Bush said he would repeal Obama's unilateral actions.

Dubya started this amnesty mess in 2007 ........He would have passed it in a New York minute!.......but we, the people got loud and started calling our congresscritters and they responded with what spine they had left......
...so George vaulted it over to his chosen successor.....Hussein Obama.
SLAM ME if you want, but that’s how I see it!
George broke my heart in 2007.......I voted for him.....twice!....worked in the local campaign......and got stabbed in the back.
I don’t trust him........his dad....his brother....his mother .....his wife.....or his daughter ( who works for NBC)
I was once naive and trusting......
RINO-RAT Party
I felt most betrayed by the issue with the border guards. As you said, brokenhearted.
But the media was relentless, even before 9/11. They never let up.
My biggest disappointments with Bush were in the very last year of his second term.
I don’t know how I would have handled the constant barrage from the media if it had been me.
Jeb is the wrong messenger. His approach to immigration is too much dominated by the beltway class and the immigration consultant industry.
I’m pro-illegal (well pro 80 or 90% of illegals). But Jeb and the immigration consultant industry do not have the right approach.
Do you mean Ramos and Compean?
I believe he would have left them to rot in prison if it hadn’t been for strong public opinion.....revelations.....and an assist from Glenn Beck at the time.
Yes. Ramos and Compean.
Glenn Beck was great back then...but he also seems to have “deteriorated”.
That’s why I don’t trust ANYBODY anymore.
They won’t vote for Jeb anyhow, they’ll vote for the 100% 24 karat Democrat.
People can be persuaded but apparently Bushes cannot.
Got to look at the pipe dream through their pipe to understand it.
We’ve aborted away the working population that would have been needed to be taxed to support our debt and multifarious dole. So importing it makes perfect sense to the new GOP.
I really wish Jeb would take his act to whatever country has his loyalties, because the USA ain’t it.
Fuch him.
Jeb thinks we can be persuaded . . . what . . . that criminals should be rewarded for their crimes? That aliens who break our laws should have an advantage over legal immigrants willing to obey the law? That real Americans need more competition for jobs — from illegals?
Sorry, Jeb, but as dangerous as FedGov is for decent Americans, I still believe in the rule of law. I still want our country to return to that ideal. I will not under any circumstances vote for Jeb. I won’t vote for Hillary either, and I won’t stay home, but I may write in a vote for President. America cannot survive another bad person occupying our White House. It’s Cruz, or Walker as a second choice, but I am not holding my nose in 2016 or ever again until we have rolled back the damage done under Obama.
Why not just annex Mexico if they want to be in the USA?
Yep!
Jeb hasn’t even had the first primary debate and he has promised to break the oath of office if he is elected.
And Faux News is going to keep pushing Jeb. This morning, I could hear parts of the Sunday morning Fox program as the husband watched via DVR in another room. I wanted to scream when I heard them have Barbara Bush deliver some sort of Mothers’ Day message.
Jeberish.
I like it.
Tone deaf dunce.
After 20 years of telling them NO they don’t seem to have been persuaded. Maybe they need more bkoodshed? Nope not even that. Jeb would kill every last American in the country for Amnesty.
