LYNCHBURG, VA. Looking to win over skeptical evangelical voters, Jeb Bush pushed back Saturday against what he said are modern intrusions on religion as he lauded graduates and their families at Liberty University, a Christian college popular on the path to the Republican presidential nomination.
Fashionable ideas and opinions which these days can be a religion all by itself have got a problem with Christians and their right of conscience, Bush told an audience of 34,000 in the schools football stadium.
That makes it our problem, and the proper response is a forthright defense of the first freedom in our Constitution.
Some evangelicals view Bush warily, questioning whether the former Florida governor and likely candidate for the Republican presidential nomination would provide a suitable bulwark against gay marriage, illegal immigration and other issues key to conservatives.
Bush did not mention gay marriage, but got some of his loudest applause when he said wherever there is a child waiting to be born, we say choose life, and we say it with love.
And the convert to Catholicism pledged that he would not apologize for allowing faith to influence his decision making.

They’ve got George P. Bush warming up in Texas.....
Rubio’s talking `Taken’ tough. McCain is blowing all conservative.
So big surprise—yet another phony RINO, George III, also running for office and giving us that Old Time Religion.
It’s enough to make a crow blush.
Glad you woke up? Why did you sleep so long? The information was always out there, if onw refused to be spoon fed.
In denial still about how cruel some in this country have become.
I don’t know how cruelty really factors much into the equation. Jebbie abandoned his post and refused to directly and physically intervene to save a human life that he had sworn to protect.
He was cowed by Men in Black.
Jeb Bush: Episcopalian before 1995, Catholic thereafter.
However, he seems to worship at the “Church of the Multinational”.
ROTFLMAO at this fraud...'aggressive' would have been marching your sorry *ss right into Terri's bedside with a glass of water...make them arrest you. Coward.
i don’t care about he politics of the situation. Starving a human who is aware is cruel. Doesn’t take a religious belief to see that.
This social conservative says that he isn’t acceptable- political dynasties are deadly to republics, and this particular patrician has no credibility either.
He’s gonna have a ton of money.
I’m supporting Cruz.
It’s not even about the “politics”. It’s about character, principles, integrity and courage.
An A+ for “good intentions” means nothing when there is failure in courage.
amen
You have to understand that what Jeb says and what he does are two different things. He speaks with a “FORKED TONGUE”. Yet, in order for these REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT to get their wish, that of electing another “DEMOCRAT LITE” republican, they will lie through their teeth. Just as they lied through their teeth to get elected in 2014.
Ironic-—and amusing-—to see Jeb praising the conservative evangelicals for whom he has nothing but contempt. I’m sure he had his team research the right words for him to say.
The Falwell brothers have become hooked on obtaining the biggest names for their ceremonies, unfortunately.
Jeb Bush murdered Terri Schiavo.
She was not a “vegetable.”
But most important: She was not DYING. She had to be KILLED.
Terri Schiavo ....All Jebbie did was stand on the sidelines like a frightened little child. He avoided completely or as much as humanly possible
