Wells Fargo is accused of opening up accounts and credit cards in customers' names without their authorization.
The complaint charges that bank employees opened new accounts for existing customers without their authorization, in order to meet sales quotas. The employees also allegedly transferred money from customers' authorized accounts to pay fees on the unauthorized accounts.
When fees on unauthorized accounts went unpaid, some customers were placed into collection. Others had negative information placed on their credit reports as a result.

WFC stock price unphased... if you bought it at the low of the March ‘09 crash, you would be sitting on a 6-1/2 bagger.
SO wells fargo only hires Millenials?
Two accounts? Ten accounts? Hundreds of accounts? Thousands of accounts? Tens of thousands of accounts?
I have a hard time believing this was a massive problem.
The reporting is more or less a smear at this point in time.
How about some details before publishing a story of this type?
As for the employees claiming they were forced into this, bull stuff!
There’s always an excuse for everything evil people do.
I’m sure all banks encourage opening new accounts. Do all bank employees do this sort of thing?
God attorneys have vivid imaginations. Sadly week minded people buy into their made up excuses for stuff like this.
Why heck, even weak minded people will...
Oops.
Well, if you can’t trust the banks, who can you trust!?!?!?
;)
Family member recently went to work for WF as teller. She says it is true that employees are pressed to fill quotas...or, talk customers into “upgrading,” as she puts it. Employees are to get 3 upgrades or new accounts (get customers to add stuff to account, like credit cards, debit cards, etc., per day.
It comes down to this: you either have integrity in the workplace or you don't. No amount of pressure should make somebody abandon their ethics.
Hard jail time for that.
That’s true of I would bet 400 of the SP500 and I can name you some 15 and 30-baggers. VCI (got bought some time ago) 1.52 >> 34. I remember it well because I knew and drank coffee at the local hangout every day w/someone who worked there and bot some shs < $2. He probably sold them between $4 + $5.
I dealt with one pissed of woman when I closed my WF checking account a few years ago.
They are the aol of the banking industry.
You still banking with these slimeballs?
I received an email from Bank of America last evening saying they restricted my account as they detected fraudulent activity.
I called after looking at the bank site and seeing about $700 plus charges for Nordstrom Rack (clothing store) in North Hollywood plus a few smaller charges made that evening.
The person I talked to said the tried out a 30 cent charge to see if the account was good then rang up the bill. It shows at the bank site (made after hours)
It was nice how quick the bank caught the fraud. I have never been to North Hollywood so it was out of the ordinary and I also have never shopped at Nordstrom Rack.
They are sending out a new card. When my card number was stolen can not be determined.
