Ben Carson, famed neurosurgeon, running for president

Ben Carson, retired neurosurgeon turned conservative star, has confirmed that he will seek the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.

Carson, who has never run for public office, is expected to be the only high-profile African-American to enter the GOP’s presidential primary as he tries to parlay his success as an author and speaker into a competitive campaign against established politicians.

“I’m willing to be part of the equation and therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for president of the United States of America,” he said in an interview aired Sunday night by Ohio’s WKRC television station.

He is set to make a more formal announcement during a speech from his native Detroit on Monday.

Do you think Ben Carson is the kind of man who would stand by his word?

I’ve had the impression he is. If Carson makes a statement, it’s his duty to answer for it. Not mine.
‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’

What are you talking about? How can he stand by it? HE NEVER SAID IT. Get it??? That’s why you have no link. HE NEVER SAID IT!

If he did you would have a link by googling it in 5 seconds.
Wow. Strange night at Free republic.

“I wouldn’t even considering voting for Jeb Bush under any circumstances.”

My daughter was telling me how the Bush’s were the second father and son presidents. And I mentioned “Hey - we should vote Jeb in and make it TWO sons!”

My daughter said “Ugh. But - he would be better than Hillary.”

I tried to explain how, in the long run, he probably wouldn’t be.

Here’s Carson original statement with Glen Beck (was the first item on google):

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/conservative-hero-ben-carson-to-beck-you-have-no-right-to-semi-automatic-weapons-in-large-cities/

Asked by Beck for his thoughts on the Second Amendment, Carson gave the popular pro-gun argument: “There’s a reason for the Second Amendment; people do have the right to have weapons.”

But when asked whether people should be allowed to own “semi-automatic weapons,” the doctor replied: “It depends on where you live.”

“I think if you live in the midst of a lot of people, and I’m afraid that that semi-automatic weapon is going to fall into the hands of a crazy person, I would rather you not have it,” Carson elaborated.

However, if you live “out in the country somewhere by yourself” and want to own a semi-automatic weapon, he added, “I’ve no problem with that.”

Well, go big or go home, I guess. Might as well start at the top.

I’m convinced that we (Conservatives and/or Freepers) would have tried to destroy Reagan if he tried to run now.

Amnesty
Gun Control laws in California (he prohibited open-carry).
Marine Lebanon bombing, then leaving shortly there-after.
Increased our debt.
Etc.

Don’t get me wrong - he was one of our greatest Presidents, but he had several things that today would earn him a RINO label. Obviously he wasn’t. We need to remember his 90% rule or whatever it was.

Fully aware of that video. In a later video he fully clarified his view and said the second amendment should not be touched and citizens allowed to own whatever weapons they wanted.

This road has already been trampled on tonight. Fwiw, I have no intention of voting for Ben Carson nor think he would make a good candidate. I do think he is an awesome man (no one has called out Obama as Carson did when he mocked Obama and his healthcare plan while standing right next to him) and just wanted his views clearly stated.

Me too - while I may disagree with him on a few things, I think he will add a lot to the debates and the topics that will be brought up as we head to the election. He isn’t presidential material imho, but he will bring some good ideas up I think. Probably as related to obamacare and how to proceed forward.

Carson has supported the idea of everyone carrying their medical records encoded in a microchip under their skin, and he wants the government to give every citizen 2000 dollars to start their health savings account.

And Cruz wants to up legal immigration and work visas (while squashing illegal incursions), and Walker has "flip-flopped" on immigration, etc. etc. etc...

Gosh, the campaign season is just beginning and "principled conservatives" have already deemed we have nobody worthy of our votes.

How pathetic.

Spare us all the childish overreactions. As if everyone who has different understandings and opinions is a “liar” and a “liberal.” Go back to grammar school and grow up.

One thing Carson does NOT assert, as you so childishly attribute to him, is that cities are not in need of the Second Amendment. He does not say that, or even suggest that, in *any* of his discussions of the subject. Good Lord, spare us from jackasses who can only sling mud and not discuss the issues fairly.

So then, on your planet we should seek out people who are mentally disturbed in the most densely populated areas of our country and encourage them to own semi-automatic weapons. Good luck seeing your opinion upheld by the next President of the United States.

Just to be clear about something important. The comment about the microchips is pure fiction as far as I could tell. I googled it and found nothing. And when I pressed the poster about it, he would not provide any source. It was a particularly egregious claim so I had to check it out.

Besides that, I get your point but to at least clarify where I come from. I consider myself a principled Christian before a principled conservative. And I think this country is headed down a very ugly road at a very rapid speed and the number one reason is disregard for basic Christian principles such as marriage between a man and a woman as one of the pillars upon which our country is built.. If the candidate doesn't seem to get that and shows signs that he would eventually capitulate to the normalizing homosexual agenda going on right now, I will not vote for them. You may not agree with me on this, but be clear, I am not alone by a long shot. So best to push the candidate who is clear on such issues. Right now that is clearly Ted Cruz.
