A very long blood trail leads from the scene of a suspicious death to a Starbucks and may provide clues as to who killed a Chula Vista man, police said.
Chula Vista Police were called to the second-story building at 45 3rd Avenue at approximately 1:30 a.m. The crime scene is located east of Interstate 5 and south of State Route 54.
A 44-year-old Hispanic man was found lying in his doorway, suffering from severe injuries, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. His identity has not been released.
Investigators then found a trail of blood and other evidence that stretches approximately a mile to a nearby Starbucks.
Chula Vista Police Lt. Fritz Reber said a roommate of the victim discovered the body and called it in to police. A pair of bloody pants were found near the crime scene.
Were still walking the trail, Lt. Reber said. Weve come to a location where we cant find anymore and that location is maybe a mile from here.
While the cause of death has yet to be determined, Reber said it appears there was some type of struggle.
Investigators were collecting information from people who knew the victim. Theyre also checking cameras and witnesses along the blood trail, Reber said.
No suspect information has been released.

LOL!
Chula Vista is a rough neighborhood. Glad I don’t live near there anymore.
OMG, to die in a Starbucks, that would be my hell.
Maybe somebody didn’t like him starting a conversation about race.
I grew up in Chula Vista. My mom finally sold the family home at Nolan Way & L St in October 2005. It was a nice place when we moved into the house in August 1963. By 2001, the neighborhood was mostly hispanic and drug deals were happening at the foot of the driveway on a regular basis. Plenty of gunshots too. I worked very hard on the landscaping after my dad had a pool installed, a brick retaining wall added to the back yard and around the front. It was a great house. The neighborhood turned very bad, so there were few regrets when the house was sold.

Chula Vista is quite near the 32nd Street naval base; even back in the late ‘70s it was nowhere to be walking after dark.
