President Obama said he wanted Americans to gain perspective and be thankful there is less violence now than there was during the Cold War.
Obama predicted Islam’s process to rid itself of extremism would be a “generational project,” he said in an interview with Chris Matthews.
“I remind people that, you know, there actually is probably less war and less violence around the world today than there might have been 30, 40 years ago. It doesn’t make it any less painful but things can get better,” Obama said.
The president set a high standard for himself: at least the United States is not involved in another Cold War. Obama did not compare his time in the White House with that of his predecessors. Instead, he portrayed his six years in a more promising point of view by contrasting it with some of the most violent and politically complex times in modern world history.
If one doesn’t count the Christian genocide at the hand of Muslims, I guess there’s not much to talk about.
It’s like in the late 1940’s saying there’s less violence at that time if one were to discount WWII.
Cambodia, Vietnam boat people, Rhodesia, Angola, Chile, Argentina, Pakistan-India, India-China, Biafra-Nigeria, Iraq-Iran, Afghanistan-Russian invasion, Congo, Israel-Arab League, Vietnam-China conflict, Vietnam-Cambodia conflict, and way too many more.

The usual Muslim rampages in Africa, Lebanon and Indonesia.
Not a great time then, but also probably no worse than now.
you forgot Grenada!!! Actually, sadly 20 men died and the invasion was only three days after we lost 240 troops in Lebanon. Maybe someone smarter than me knows why we didn’t smash Lebanon to pieces.

So 1975. After the US withdrew from Vietnam but before the fall of the Shah of Iran, the Sovs invaded Afghanistan, the various Communist uprisings in Central America and Africa (Angola). But right about the same time as the Killing Fields and other violent Communist repression in Asia.
If anything he picked one of the few times during the Cold War when there really was a lull (relatively speaking) in volence and war.
Obama may be right if he added... before I was elected. Now its worse than before I was elected.

I want to know how anyone quantifies this on either side of the argument.
It won’t be legal in most states.

Anyway, the violence we see today is nothing like what
we will see in the future and there is nothing sarcastic
about that.
This is just his way of saying Africa is rapidly running out of breathing Christians.
