While the administration struggles to move forward with its plan to grant amnesty to illegal immigrants, the list of foreigners trying to get into the United States legally has surged to 4.4 million, over 100,000 more than last year, according to the State Department.
Those on the list either have a family member who is a U.S. citizen or green card holder, sponsoring their entry, or an employer wants them.
The list grew by 100,085 over last year. And more than a quarter of them, 1,323,978, are Mexican.

unlike illegals slipping over the border, many of those on the wait list have been there for up to 13 years or more as they go through the proper process to enter the country.
Unlike with illegals, the government regulates who can come into the country legally.

The existence of this massive waiting list of eligible applicants for family immigrant visas and green cards raises important questions for policymakers

Whether legal or illegal, we have too many invaders, period.
It is also profoundly unfair to all of us..............
No “social justice” for law abiding people in Barackistan.
This headline, while I understand the intent, is misleading.
They are not 4 million Legal Immigrants. They are applicants. To my knowledge, that’s what they are waiting on - being selected.
If you try and come to this country legally we make you run an absolute gauntlet through Bureaucrat Hell.
Just wait and see what millions of work permits for the illegals does to the black unemployment rate?
the 1980 Census : 226 million people.
In 1990 : resident population of the United States was 248 million.
Now 330 Million ?
True, but the point is some immigrants are trying to do the right thing and follow the law. They are getting a raw deal. Whether we agree with immigration law or not, we shouldn’t condemn those who are following it. The ones who are following the law—especially with so many abusing it—are exactly the kind of immigrants we should want.
Could it be that the Rats have concluded that legal immigrants would be less dependent and loyal to the progressive socialist causes, and less of an adverse impact on the US economy?
I hope as legal immigrants become citizens they will always remember that it was the democrats who kept pushing them to the back of the line.
Yes
So true.
Recently, we've seen pictures of boats overloaded with Africans trying to cross the Mediterranean. At first, jumping in the boat looks like a good idea; eventually it becomes a bad idea, as the boat is overfilled. The US is in the early to mid- stages of becoming like those boats.
I have posted for years that “illegal immigration” imposes SLAVE WAGES on LEGAL immigrants and minorities.
Actually, they have been "selected." They have completed all of the required paperwork and examinations. They are waiting in line to come into the country. We have annual quotas for various classes based on their eligibility under the law. For example, a spouse would have a higher priority than a nephew.
Some wait in line for over a decade. Chain migration should be limited to the nuclear family and then many of these applicants would be disallowed. We take in 1.1 million LEGAL PERMANENT IMMIGRANTS A YEAR, more than the rest of the world combined. These numbers are way too high and should be reduced to 300,000 or less.
Legal immigration does the same thing. You don't bring in 1.1 million legal immigrants a year without affecting the supply of labor. Since 1990 we have brought in 30 million legal immigrants. Is it any wonder that we have the lowest labor participation rates in 38 years or that American wages have been depressed for decades? Immigrants, legal and illegal, are taking American jobs.
Nonsense. As someone who has actually issued visas, the process is straightforward and needed. How would you change the process?
You don't seem to understand the process. There are Congressional limits on the numbers of immigrants admitted under various categories. The Dems would love to see them all admitted as soon as possible since they vote two to one Democrat. 87% of legal immigrants are minorities as defined by the USG. Immigrants and minorities vote two to one Dem.
