Washington (AFP) - US President Barack Obama lashed out Friday at Senate Republicans stalling his attorney general nominee's confirmation, calling it "crazy" and "embarrassing" that Loretta Lynch has yet to get a vote.
"What are we doing here?" an exasperated Obama said at a White House press conference, referring to how Lynch has now waited for her confirmation vote more than five months.
"There are times where the dysfunction in the Senate just goes too far. This is an example of it," Obama said.
"Enough. Enough," he added. "Call Loretta Lynch for a vote, get her confirmed. Put her in place, let her do her job. This is embarrassing, a process like this."
Obama accused his foes of "political gamesmanship" because the nomination of Lynch, the current US attorney for the Eastern District of New York, is bogged down in an unrelated human trafficking bill.
