The Z-Ro Retinal Obfuscation weapon mounted to a handgun.
Last summers riots in Ferguson, Missouri, prompted much talk by President Obama and certain members of Congress about the need to demilitarize local police forces. Nearly a year later, the opposite is happening.
New and more powerful weapons are flowing into local police departments daily, and still others are new to the marketplace.
One weapon about to make its debut is the Z-Ro Retinal Obfuscation gun. When fired, the gun allows an officer to temporarily blind his targeted subject for up to 15 minutes.
The new compliance weapon made a splash at the Urban Shield trade show last October in Boston. It is not yet available for purchase but recently entered the manufacturing stage, according to its maker, Reno, Nevada-based Shield Defense Systems LLC. It can be weapon-mounted or hand-held.
We are currently developing and manufacturing numerous proprietary technologies, dont be left behind, the firm says on its website. Contact us now to be on the priority list for information and demonstrations at info@shielddefensesystems.com.
The company refers to recent controversies in making its pitch for the sight-stealing gun, and says the weapon is safe to use against humans.
With the rise of recent controversies directed at law enforcement officers Shield Defense Systems has dedicated its personnel and resources with primary objectives in providing non-lethal and less-harmful but effective, deployable defense systems to proactively subdue would-be assailants. Our systems focus on the PRESERVATION OF HUMAN LIFE, and POST QUALITY OF LIFE, while delivering effective compliance techniques to quell both foreign and domestic threats.

It’s something that is usually associated with exposure and power. Lots of power for a brief period could blind permanently, but so could less power, with longer exposure.
I'd better go back and reread the article, but somehow I don't think Obama's militarized law enforcement agencies will really be concerned about our ability to read small print after we are lased.
A temporarily blinded person is just a better target of opportunity.
Psst... (They really aren't re-education camps, so you won't be up late studying for final exams.) /sarc.
Have ‘em stop in San Francisco. They’d be dealing with the same type of peoples...
And what do you wanna bet that the gov’t protects those DHS / DARPA funded weapons manufacturers from liability lawsuits when these weapons cause injury during domestic citizen control use?
FYI: brief exposure to culminated light from a small laser printer can cause Permanent retina damage.
Can’t imagine how they are making this temporary blinding laser weapon safe?
I insist that before this is deployed for public use, Every company employee, their family members, and government LEOs undergo full dosage testing of the weapon in order to demonstrate how safe this weapon is!
That’s fk’d up...
I would be concerned that these weapons could be used by criminals ... Could blind a truck driver hauling dangerous goods or blind a robbery victim
Try saying that to a GI who came up against an MG 42.
Look closely at the barrel changeout as well as the perspective from the target’s point of view.

They are a bigger threat to Americans security and freedom than ISIS.
Thank you Jorge el Segundo and Obozo.
Looks like it to me also.
I’ve read that some place before,,,
?
And stock up on laser pointers.
All cops are not bad, as you are probably really saying. It doesn’t take all cops to be bad to endanger us. All it takes is what we’ve got, a few, maybe more than a few, really dangerous, bad apples and a whole lot of cops who aren’t averse to forcing the citizenry into servitude. After all, it feels GOOD to be on the stronger, winning side. Like Terminus (The Walking Dead reference) Cops often do just what they want and throw their weight around, even if they’re not “bad” cops. Try and question if they demand you do something they want you to do, that is without reason, without legal meaning, and see what happens.
Within a year thugs will have these blinders and be using them to mug their victims.
No way this technology is restricted to LEOs.
When people look at the budget of DHS they have to recognize two things: First, is the scope of how far DHS goes, Coast Guard to FEMA to Border Protection. Second, is the grant funding put into the budget. Combine those two things with the current state of congressional funding and you have a perfect storm for blowing huge sums of money to support donors.
Haven’t seen that with Tasers although you do see a fair amount of contact electric stun weapons out there. Too many people watching movies.
