Full title: Young married couple and their baby son killed after a chunk of CONCRETE falls off Washington state bridge and crushes their pickup truck...A mother, father and their eight-month old baby boy were killed on Monday when a concrete barrier fell onto their truck as they were driving under an overpass in Washington State.

The tragic accident claimed the lives of Josh and Vanessa Ellis and baby Hudson, who were crushed when the 50-foot-long concrete slab slammed down on top of them, according to Bonney Lake Police.

The barrier weighed 'tons' according to investigators and the damage to the family's pickup truck was so great that it took them hours to extract the bodies.

Just a matter of a few seconds one way or the other would have made a difference. So said. RIP.

Very sad. But, I have to wonder, why is a 50 foot long, multi-ton barrier slab resting on what looks like plywood and thin extension struts? This seems more like the case of an inept construction company than the oft-cited “crumbling infrastructure.”

Oh, but you know this’ll be used by Obama & co to plea for “raising taxes on the rich”.

Just what is the government doing with the billions of dollars that are supposed to be used to fix roads?

But instead of inspecting and repairing bridges, the Washington state government spends millions on silly environmental projects to save snails and squirrels.

Stupid Washington State residents....keep putting your faith in big gov’t.

City spokesman Woody Edvalson said the material that fell in Bonney Lake - situated around 30 mile southeast of Seattle, Washington - was part of the original span, which was built in 1992.

There was nothing structurally wrong with the bridge. This was a bridge improvement project that went bad. Of the two construction companies involved with this project, one has a questionable safety record.

This happened close to where I live.

The reason for the construction was to add a sidewalk to the road... kinda lame if you ask me.

It would appear they failed to reinforce the existing structure when they added the new features. That’s supposed to be part of the project.

Such a terrible tragedy. From the news accounts I have read, the bridge structure was fine (93/100 sufficiency rating) but the city was in the process of retrofitting a sidewalk/bicycle path on the outside of the bridge.

As a city/county engineer I would bet that the design consultant and their construction manager, and the contractor have some serious splaining to do. The City better hope that the consultant and contractor have really good insurance policies to invoke their indemnity clauses.

My guess again is that the policy was only for $1 million as that was the standard for so many years. One of the clauses that we starting implementing was $5 million minimum policy limit. The contractor’s balked but this is the reason why.

That money went to get Obama re-elected, and any other funds go to future voters, illegals.
