Tomorrow, April 14, the Texas House of Representatives is scheduled to consider House Bill 910, NRA-supported open carry legislation sponsored by state Representative Larry Phillips (R-Sherman). HB 910 removes the requirement that Concealed Handgun Licensees (CHL) keep their handguns concealed and gives them the option of carrying them either wholly or partially visible in a belt or shoulder holster. After having established a 20-year record of law-abiding and responsible behavior, Texas CHLs have earned this personal protection option that 43 states currently allow.
Eighty members of the House have signed onto the bill. Rep. Phillips deserves strong praise for his work to line up this many co-authors for the measure. You can check to see if your State Representative is a co-author of this NRA-backed bill by clicking here.
Call and email your state Representative before Tuesday afternoon and urge him or her to support HB 910 but to oppose any amendments that are not acceptable to the sponsor. As we previously reported, amendments to allow localities to "opt out" of any open carry law and to require that CHLs choosing to carry openly use law enforcement-style retention holsters were rejected by the Texas Senate on the companion bill, Senate Bill 17, sponsored by state Senator Craig Estes.
Brilliant idea. I have no idea if the House parliamentary rules permit such a thing, but I'd sure welcome it if they do.
You just know that Abbott and Patrick aren't going to lay down and take Straus' shenanigans like Perry and Dewhurst did.
The man seems like a cat with nine lives. The composition of our state government has been rapidly moving to the political right with every election, yet somehow, this quisling RINO manages to hold onto power anyway.
I've just got to believe that he's in his last term as Speaker, and that he'll be dumped by the House members in the next election. The full weight of our collective political will is against him, and it's growing.
Under the pending bill, yes it would be. It's not perfect, but it's a step in the right direction.
Thank you for posting the link to info about Texas Special (legislative) Sessions. Much appreciated.
No problem!
Saw on the news that that house passed it! Now on to Governor Abbot’s desk! Anybody got any idea on when it would actually become law?
Yup, It goes into effect Jan 1st.
No kidding? I've been meaning to look for word about the vote all day, but we've been up to our eyeballs in work.
Thanks - I'll hunt around to find some verification of this.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) Texas moved closer Friday to becoming the most populous state to allow licensed open carry of handguns after Republicans pushed through a key vote in the state House.
The 96-35 preliminary vote in favor of the measure sets up a final vote expected next week. The state Senate has already approved a similar version, and while some work remains to work out any differences, the chambers could send the measure to Gov. Greg Abbott, who has pledged to sign an open carry bill.

Sorry for the false alarm, I should have verified it. Man they sure know how to drag things out....
Wish they’d just do it already! Sheesh!
But, best to get it right before letting people start looking like gunslingers around here. :)
Awesome. I never did get the news that it had passed. Sorry for the previous post on how long they were taking. LOL!
Keep fightin’ Johnny! :)
Every American citizen of good standing age seventeen, if on active military duty, or older is entitled by the constitution to carry, open or concealed, a firearm of their choice anywhere they please. Any and all regulations/laws to the contrary are ipso facto unconstitutional.
The government should not under any circumstances have access to lists of owners of firearms. That access can only be for one thing, Future confiscation of those firearms.
When a citizen gets their drivers license renewed the DMV checks for wants and warrants, Basically the same check done on someone purchasing a firearm. so simply put a code on the back of the license that allows someone to purchase a gun. That way a background check is done and the government does not get told you now own a firearm. This would work as well as the current system at keeping guns out of the hands of criminals.
