Gary Hart has serious reservations about a Hillary Clinton candidacy.
The prospect of a billion-dollar Clinton campaign ought to frighten every American, he said in an interview with POLITICO, and Democrats would be better served by a competitive primary that forced her to speak in more depth about the issues.
Hart, a two-time Democratic presidential candidate, offered his opinions in a phone interview Wednesday where he also expressed admiration of Elizabeth Warren and gave advice to prospective challenger Martin OMalley, a former Hart campaign staffer.
I like Hillary Clinton. I really appreciate what she and her husband have done but we need new leaders, said Hart, a former Colorado senator who rose from the bottom of the polls and nearly took down Walter Mondale in the 1984 primaries.
The post-Citizens United campaign finance environment has sullied the presidential process, he said, benefiting establishment politicians who cater to financial backers. He pointed to his own experience, noting that he and his wife mortgaged their home for between $50,000 and $75,000 an amount that made a significant difference in his first campaign in 1984.
Im now told the Clinton campaign intends to raise $1 billion. Now, that ought to frighten every American, he said.

Even though Gary Hart was and is probably still a sleezebag, had he come around a decade or so later, he could have been a Democrat hero like Bill Clinton.

Bill would never have become president if it were not for Gary Hart.
Hart was suppose to be the Democratic savior, but was derailed over a sex scandal. Democrats were ticked about that and vowed to never let it happen again, and thus Bill Clinton was elected.
Try $2B. She will be spending all of that, and with help from Hollywood and the media, it might as well be $3B. It would be an absolute disaster if she were elected, but it will not be easy running against her. She will have the micro-targeting sophistication of the Google folks just as Obama for America had in 2012, and you see what that produced. The RNC must have its shirt together, now.
Agree: Far more a traditional Dem/lib than what we have today.
The number of people who care what Gary Hart has to say is pretty dang small, I bet.
Money is to getting elected like power is to reaching the speed of light. The more you spend, the less each dollar matters, until you couldn’t spend all the money in the world to make your chances any better.
If he were alive, no amount of money could get Hitler elected leader of Israel. Hillary has a similar problem here. Only a fool would vote for this woman at this point. Sadly, we’ve proven we have our fair share of them...
Sounds like Monkey Business to me.
I’m not worried. If there’s one thing the Chicoms have alot of its cash laying around.
If she had 2 billion, she wouldn’t need to do any campaigning. She could simply give 10 million voters in targeted states $200 apiece.
The number of people who even know who Gary Hart is is pretty dang small.
This guy is still alive?
With a billion dollar$ to spend, Hillary’s ad buy will make big media so happy it will sing praises about her so loud the noise will be deafening.
I have a great one....but I shall demur
I didn’t know he was alive either, but evidently.
