It's going to be hard for the Republicans to field a presidential candidate as enthusiastic about the H-1B visa as U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). Cruz, who announced his presidential bid this morning, once proposed an immediate increase in the base H-1B cap from 65,000 to 325,000. Cruz offered the H-1B increase as an amendment in 2013 to the Senate's comprehensive immigration bill.

Yes that’s true
I lost my last full time job to THREE H1-Bs. Took me over six years to replace that income.
This is a deal breaker for me.
Yes, sometimes we must look outside the country for special skills, no, we don’t need to do this when only 3% of our own STEM graduates can find jobs in STEM related fields.
Japan has a good solution, their equivalent of our H1-B program requires that the foreigners with special skills must be paid 25% more than their native counterparts.
If the skill really is so critical, and really is so vital, and really is so rare, a company should be happy to pay a bit more for it.
I encourage everyone to not be reactive when hearing stories about Ted Cruz. The bad guys are going to do their best to destroy him ... and leave us with Jeb.

I am generally opposed to facilitating more jobs for non-Americans, at the expense of Americans. That said, read the press release on Ted Cruz’s site with a level head.
Increasing the supply with new highly talented labor decreases the price of existing highly talented labor. That’s a pay cut for people currently working in these fields.
However, when the whole economy has many more highly talented people, more total value is created in America, rather than offshored to (say) India. That means capital creation, new business startups, and spin-off jobs in America. That is an increase in the wages and decrease in the costs for everyone else in America.
So, the proposal is a mixed bag. To which group do you belong? The group immediately affected by a pay cut, or the group generally benefitted by having a large talented labor pool HERE rather than THERE?
I’m in the former group. So I’m harmed.
But let’s be clear, America can benefit. People will have policy preferences accordingly.

If he did, he could have signed on to the recently introduced H1-B Visa Immigration Innovation (“I-Squared”) bill, introduced by Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chris Coons (D-DE), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). If he was for an increase in the H1-B visas, he would have done so, he did not.

You know, the same Arizona Chamber of Commerce that was pimping the Gang of 8's amnesty bill not too long ago. (Ahem).
They have to pay these H1-B people enough to make it worth their while to give up friends and country to come to this country and perform the same tasks that you can do. Are you unable to compete with them on a wage basis?
We all claim to be capitalists here, but we all want the government to protect us from competition.
We do need to stop all illegal immigration, and Cruz is the only candidate who is consistent on that end. OTOH, legal immigration needs to be regulated and Cruz's proposal on that end made it clear that the H1-B visas would only be given where it is documented that there is a need and that American workers would not be displaced.
Right now there's not a lot of regulation on that end.

Cruz cited a study by the American Enterprise Institute, which argued that visa workers create jobs.
You may disagree with the study,(would be good to read it first), but you ought not doubt the patriotism of Ted.
Since announcing his candidacy, I've been scouring the news sites for negative stories concerning Ted Cruz.
Don't rush to judgment. Media sources that lean left will do everything in their power to skew opinions about Ted Cruz.
I've listened to Ted Cruz many times throughout his senate run and on into the senate. Not one ounce of me believes Ted Cruz would do anything to harm American workers.
Let this play out. I urge folks not to get reactionary on anything for several months. This primary season is just beginning to heat up and folks, be sure, Ted Cruz will battle not only socialist/communist/progressives, he will be battling the republican establishment that will work night and day to stain his reputation.
Remember, big gubbamint republicans want a moderate/left candidate. They have a searing hate for the Tea Party and constitutional conservatives.
We in the USA take in almost 2 million 3rd world immigrants per year already and those immigrants vote to increase socialism. we need to go the other way to reduce 3rd world immigration to the USA. the democrats are importing voters and that will hurt every American as it does in Venezuela. immigration decides all other issues. read the Ann Coulter article on that subject immigration is the issue that decides all other issues. it's not just us Americans that will directly lose our jobs it's everyone who will suffer as California shows
One of the few issues where I disagree with him. Hopefully Congress can block it. And it’ll probably be an issue on the campaign trail.
Why would Cruz want to increase domestic STEM professionals if only to see them get laid off in favor of H-1Bs?
Cruz is a bright man. One can only assume he hasn't been given the full story behind what has happened to U.S. STEM workers.
I am a staunch conservative and I do not have any problem with LEGAL immigration. If people want to come here and work that’s okay but it has to be limited and controlled.
I work in healthcare and it used to be impossible to get nurses. Unions were doing their best to keep the supply down and putting pressure to increase demand ( higher wages). This eventually led to some hospitals sending their own representative to the Philippines to recruit nurses.
interfering with either supply or demand always has unseen consequences.

They wont and will eventually stay home and not vote. It is a good policy. Look what good it has done for the past six years.
I will not give money any more to the Republican party. I will raise money for the local club/committee and for specific candidates. I will always vote. I did not like voting for McCain and Romney, but I did not vote so I am not responsible for this travesty in the white house (it must kill him to live there)

easy fix. Put in a requirement that you cannot hire a foreign or ILLEGAL worker unless you can prove that you cannot find an American legal qualified worker.
A friend says her hire illegals (presumably) because he can hire them at $3.00 to $4.00 an hour less than the American unemployed worker demands.
