Aden (AFP) - The United States said it had evacuated all its staff from Yemen, whose embattled president has appealed for "urgent intervention" by the UN Security Council as attacks by Iran-backed rebels bring his country nearer to civil war.
Due to the deteriorating security situation in Yemen, the US government has temporarily relocated its remaining personnel out of Yemen," State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke said in a statement.
The evacuation comes after several suicide bombings claimed by the Islamic State group killed 142 people in Sanaa on Friday, with the jihadists seeking to exploit the chaos gripping the country.
The impoverished nation is torn between a north controlled by Iran-backed Shiite Huthi rebels and a south dominated by allies of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who fled house arrest in Sanaa to Aden in February.
The Huthi militia and its allies on Sunday seized the airport in the battleground central town of Taez from forces loyal to Hadi, security sources said.
...The UN Security Council is to hold an emergency meeting Sunday following Hadi's appeal.
In his letter to the Council, Hadi denounced "the criminal acts of the Huthi militias and their allies," saying they "not only threaten peace in Yemen but the regional and international peace and security."
"I urge for your urgent intervention in all available means to stop this aggression that is aimed at undermining the legitimate authority, the fragmentation of Yemen and its peace and stability," Hadi wrote.
...with rising violence between the Huthi and Sunni tribes and Al-Qaeda.
...Washington late Friday pulled out troops from the Al-Anad airbase in southern Yemen amid fighting involving Al-Qaeda militants nearby which left at least 29 dead.
The US would "continue to actively monitor terrorist threats emanating from Yemen and have capabilities postured in the area to address them,"

Pulling out of such situations we need to destroy the technology we leave behind, especially since we're under a Commander in Chief that has America on the retreat from the world stage.

US troops out as Yemen vows to counter Iran influence
Aden (AFP) - Yemen’s embattled President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi pledged Saturday to fight Iranian influence in his violence-wracked country after US troops at a key Yemeni airbase were pulled out.
The troops left late Friday for an “unknown destination”, the source at the base in the southern province of Lahj told AFP.
Yemen has acknowledged that American personnel gathering intelligence for drone strikes targeting Al-Qaeda are deployed at Al-Anad.

Yeah.... this can’t be true. It was just a couple of month ago that genius obammy said Yemen was such a success story. The fact the that the press doesn’t point this out is the real problem with our politics.
Guess we need to spend millions more for jobs programs there.
“Welcome to McAllah, would you lie suicide vest with that?”
Yemens Civil War Forges Unholy Alliance Between al-Qaeda and ISIS
Over the last six months, the world watched helplessly while Yemen descended from a country with a legitimate government into a civil war caused by an unlawful occupation of the country’s capital and several other provinces by the Houthi rebels. Today, with Sunni tribes fighting alongside al-Qaeda against the Houthis, the Yemen 24 is actually in a state of sectarian civil war, opening the door ...

Giving Yemen to Iran...part of the deal?
And we’re not going to try and fight Iran with nuclear talks on the table?
I can’t keep our dance card straight anymore of which side anybody is on. SMH
Take a look at the map. Is Saudi Arabia now going to have to fight their own war?
I have no idea at this point.
We’re back Saudi Arabia and Iran?
As once famously said by Hillary, “What difference does it make?”
If the "whole program" which fell into the hands of Al-Queda consisted of anything other than ashes left over from Thermite ignited components then someone needs to be court martialed.
EVERY military unit dealing with sensitive equipment and documents has the plans and supplies necessary to destroy those things before they fall into enemy hands. This policy goes back to artillery units "spiking" their guns if those guns had to be abandoned during an emergency retreat. Steel spikes were driven down the "touch hole" (A small hole through which the propellant charge of a cannon or muzzleloading gun is ignited) of their guns, thereby preventing your advancing enemy from turning those guns on you.
Another win by the Obama administration!
(Do I really need a sarc tag for this?)
Nice going, President McMuslim. I suppose this is Bush’s fault, too?
“Run away”! “Run Away”!
Why is the US constantly putting itself in this “run away” mode?
Does one see the Russian yanking their staff from their embassies 10 times a year?
US Foreign Policy is on the rocks and was put there by Obama and Kerry. Soon, US diplomatic corps will be withdrawn from every nation...run away Hilliary and John, runaway...
Nice going, President McMuslim. I suppose this is Bush’s fault, too?
I can only hope you are right.
At this point it doesn’t sound like they disabled stuff, just withdrew to an undisclosed location?
“The fact the that the press doesnt point this out is the real problem with our politics.”
It is the only reason President Token was elected to begin with; he was the perfect patsy to destroy our way of life, because it is immoral to criticize a mulatto today. Expect more of the same if a woman is in the White House (or a Hispanic, or a homosexual, or another Muslim).
