The World Health Organisations cancer agency has declared that one of the UKs most widely used weedkillers is probably carcinogenic to humans.
Amateur gardeners and professional farmers have been urged to think very carefully about using the popular herbicide Roundup, which contains glyphosate.
A summary of the International Agency for Research on Cancer's (IARC) report, published in The Lancet Oncology, said that the herbicide had been detected in air during spraying, in water, and in food.It had also been detected in the blood and urine of agricultural workers, indicating absorption.
...The IARC's report said that its use has increased sharply with the development of genetically modified glyphosate-resistant crop varieties.

We aren’t the only ones eating the corn. The meat we eat probably has lots of crud in it.
year 1900 cancer DEATH rate = 64/100k
year 2000 “ “ rate = 203.2/100k
year 2011 “ “ rate = 185.4/100k

This is deaths not diagnosis. I want to know how many are being diagnosed today. My brother, sister-in-law, and aunt have all had it and are not included. A discussion of the stats is here.

Environmentalists are not all wrong.
“Im still waiting for all those bad things to happen to me from when, as a kid in the 1950s and 60s, used to walk behind the truck spraying DDT.”
Good times. We used to chase those things for blocks riding our bicycles in and out of the cloud.
Lyme disease is big here and wondered if DDT would have taken out the deer ticks?
YES DDT kills ticks
And there's also milk.......FWIW, almost all divorced couples have admitted to drinking milk when they were young........Hmmmmmmm
There isn’t actually a choice as there is no middle ground left. For the most part conventionally farmed foods that are non GMO don’t exist, the only other option is to buy organic which I didn’t do prior to the shift to GMO’s.
What I used to purchase no longer exists. I don’t remember there being a drop in food prices, or even steady prices as GMOs have taken over conventional farming. As a consumer all I’ve seen is prices that have doubled or even tripled. High fat hamburger-the cheap stuff-is near $4/pound where I live. Farmers say that the feed prices have gone up dramatically. This all happened soon after the wide spread use of GMO seed.
I know that there are multiple factors that influence food prices. I’ve been married 16 years and have been pinching my pennies for the entire time; food costs have gone up dramatically in the past 11 years. I fail to see how Monsanto has saved the day with their round up ready crops when our grocery bill has eclipsed our mortgage payment with no increase in the amount of food being purchased. If it does reduce the cost of food so much, surely the rate of increase in food prices wouldn’t be so high.
FYI, while shopping at WalMart the other day I noticed lots of non GMO and organic products. Guess customers are demanding better choices and they have complied.
On another note, do you have a “Sprouts” grocery store anywhere near you? Their produce is all organic and prices are cheap. Aldi’s might be another alternative as I’ve heard they are adding more and more organic/non GMO products as well.
"But, actually, food is cheaper than it has ever been, according to a chart from MJ Perry. Well... the key is that as a percentage of disposable income food prices remain ridiculously cheap. Yes, they've gone up, and sure wages have gone down, but it's all about perspective. Food prices aren't a big crisis, at least in America."

Thanks. I guess my family is doing worse than I thought financially. Our food budget has increased to 25% of our budget, no change in employment status either.
Like Rush says, perception is reality and as prices go up much faster than our income; food doesn’t seem cheaper than ever to me or any of my friends and family.
1. Are more than likely allergenic
2. Are toxic and causing harm to specific organs /cellular targets.
3. Are ACTUALLY reducing nutritional value of food.
Look up a researcher by the name of Dr. Pustzai. He was a huge advocate of GMOs. He conducted a study in the 90s and was completely shocked by the results. It was a study on GM potatoes and rats. Ultimately what the study showed was that the group of rats fed the GM potatoes were showing damage to their intestines and immune systems while the rats not being fed the GM potatoes did not.
With permission of his employer he expressed his concern on a TV interview. The next day he was terminated and his research team was suspended. He was ordered by the UK gov't to no longer speak about the research. All correspndence could be tied back to the US gov't and Monsanto.
Ultimately, he left the UK and had to repatriate to Hungary.
Bare minimum, shouldn't further research be encouraged and, labeling and choice given to the consumer?
You could argue that people are living longer and, therefore, cancer deaths are naturally higher. I don't know if that is true but it seems a valid argument.
I'd like to see statistics on younger diagnoses and deaths.
But, what do we know? We know that in nature bt kills insects. SO, your claim that it can't hurt a fly is already suspect.
We know that when BT is inserted into a plant, the plant produces the toxin internally in grain or other cells.
We also know that the plant then produces the toxin 1000s of times more than would ever be used as a topical pesticide.
We also know that study after study are coming out showing the gene to be toxic.BT cotton feed has been implicated in animal toxicity, infertility and, even, deaths. Do a quick google search on the effects in India of Bt brinjal and sheep who graze of the BT cotton.
I typically ignored articles like this. I would think, "eh, what can I do..it's everywhere, it's probably safe".
Not even just GMO but the chemicals in the food is concerning to. Take for instance the azodicarbonamide they are using in the breads-- why? If you put this in bread in Singapore you'd get 15 years in prison. It's banned for human consumption in Europe and Australia.
You don’t know. Go do your homework.
I changed the way we ate about 10 years ago when a friend gave me “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon. I make all our own bread and we very rarely eat processed food.
The diagnosis of Graves surprises me as I have none of the risk factors, but life is like that. I’m taking the meds and already feel better, but will now try to figure out how to heal my gut and immune system.
I did the same.
Rush has said, correctly, that perception is reality in politics, and from reading your posts, you are making political decision regards your food.
The real price of food, however, reflects reality, not perception.
“year 2000 rate = 203.2/100k
year 2011 rate = 185.4/100k”
Interesting. Cancer rate has been declining since 1990 and the introduction of GMO foods. Thanks for the insight.
