Over-priced coffee and a side of white guilt

Starbucks admits that the initiative was birthed out of a company forum in which employees discussed racial tensions across America due to “police killing unarmed black men in Ferguson.”

Due to white privilege, the young couple that was tortured and murdered several years ago by a "group of individuals" in, I believe Tennessee, would not be acceptable as a counter to the "assassination" of any unarmed "youth" anywhere. Thank you Lloyd.

Happy spring to those that are getting it.

Here’s a question to ask the barista. How come there are no Starbucks locations in Ferguson or Selma?

Another more important question is “what in the hell does my feelings on race have to do with what you are trying to sell me, right here, right now, and delaying my use of your product?

I don’t drink Starbucks because I just don’t like the taste. But if you put in all types of other flavors and sweetners I guess one could like it because the taste of Starbucks without any addatives.

And I”m too cheap to spend $7.00 for a cup of coffee, when that will buy a 30oz can of “Army Blend” at the commissary.

Personally, I think their coffee is a bunch of overpriced bitter beans whose customers have to pay for a tumult of additives to make it at all palatable.

Next time you order that $5 cup of Vente, grande, pretentious goop, just think you could have had a couple gallons of gasoline in place of it.

I have been confused about what they expect to happen.

Are you supposed to discuss race relations with the barista, and hold up the line? Are you supposed to discuss race with the person in line behind you?

And, I expect that they are training their employees to render the liberal view of Ferguson and race issues. So then, what happens when those of us who are more conservative take issue with their talking points?

And, do they really think these discussions, which will slow down service, will really help their overall business?

I’d bet is you plot the home location for all of the baristas, they are likely in the parts of town with the most whites.

But they sort of sat by a black guy on a bus by accident once, so they need to tell us all about racial issues.

Good point about how much you pay at Starbucks, vs. buy your own coffee and make your own coffee at home.

Starbucks habits can add up. Some people spend $5 to $7 a day there. $7 x 30 days in a month is $210 per month. That’s a big piece of most people’s personal budget.

The last thing in the world CNN and other liberals want is an honest discussion about race.

Bingo. "Dialogue" in this context means "let me impose my narrative on you, and if you don't, I'll call you names." I may be overoptimistic on the issue but the furor over the Starbucks idiot parade tells me people are getting fed up, and I don't mean just white people.

They do NOT want to start this conversation with me. I’d inundate them with information while intentionally taking as long as possible to do it, hopefully irritating customers behind me.

When in Chicago I will get out of the car at exit toll booths as the cars back up behind me in order to pick up and properly deposit the coins I “accidentally” dropped short of the coin hopper.

The goal is to make the system as annoying as possible for as many people as possible.

Nothing beats a canteen cup full of steaming Army Blend on a cold German morning in the field.

I’m thinking the employees all over this country are thinking “Oh geez...I have to do my job and parrot this crap?” “I just wanna do my less than 39 hours and go home to smoke some bud.

What this really amounts to is a CEO that doesn’t have a clue how to continue, or grow, his company in an environment of capitalism. It is political pandering that may get them some props with liberals and blacks, but the bottom line is you ain’t gonna see no brother from the hood roll up to their window and order a $7 cup of coffee at 8 AM in the morning and then get held up to discuss how he feels about ‘race’.

MEMO TO STARBUCKS: Thanks a PANTLOAD!!

This is what "white guilt" got us in 2008. We sure as hell DO NOT need any more.

This is the same phenomenon that gave America Oprah Winfrey. But this is A LOT scarier. All it gave Oprah was tons of money and influence. Obamalamadingdong will have REAL POWER to damage the country in ways about which Winfrey could only dream!

I think they could make a go of it, and even increase their profit margins, if they expanded their menu to include marijuana and crack. (Although they would probably be the target of countless drive-by shootings. Then they coulkd have a campaign centered around gun control...)

I’ve seen some snarky remarks on other threads, to the effect that Starbucks seems to have very few black employees and few black customers. Yet this company is going to lecture us about race.

Also, some other threads discussed how there are no Starbucks in majority black towns across the country.

Oh yes. We are holding up the line. Very much so. Lot's of discussion about race with the Barista. Lots.
