Trey Gowdy sees months-long gaps in Clinton emails
Politico ^ | 03/08/2015 | Adam Sneed

Posted on 03/08/2015 10:04:01 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

The top House Republican Benghazi investigator says the emails Hillary Clinton has handed over for review have “huge gaps” that challenge her credibility over what happened in the 2012 attacks in Libya.

“There are gaps of months and months and months,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said on Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

In the batch of emails handed over to the House Select Committee on Benghazi, Gowdy said there’s no record of any communication on the day that Clinton was famously photographed wearing sunglasses and typing on her Blackberry.

“We have no emails from that trip,” he said. “It strains credibility to believe that if you’re on your way to…to discuss Libyan policy that there’s not a single document that’s been turned over to Congress.”

Gowdy said his committee won’t be releasing information on any of the emails it has received so far because they don’t present the full picture of what happened during Benghazi attacks that killed the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans. Clinton is welcome to release all of the emails she archived while serving as secretary of State, he said, but she doesn’t get to decide what’s in the public record and what isn’t.

“Frankly. I’ve lost confidence in the State Department to make that determination,” Gowdy said. “They’re the ones who allowed this arrangement. They’re the ones who did nothing about this arrangement until they got a request from our committee.”

You have any links to news stories about Gowdy knowing this 6 months ago? Or any Gowdy tweets on the subject matter?

From what I have been reading, it was only recently discovered that Hilda used private email server for ALL her official emails.

About 3/4 down into the story, McCarthy(writer) says Gowdy let it slip
in an interview with Politico that he knew about these emails since last August.

” ...He has had 6 months to supeona the “ physical server”, as well... “

I see that you have made this accusation against Gowdy multiple times.

Do you know for sure if Gowdy has the authority to issue a subpoena to seize personal property?

In all my many years of watching congressional investigations, I don’t ever recall seeing personal property being seized as evidence. Please correct me (anyone) if I’m wrong.

Personal property?
Hillary Clinton used her “personal property” to store government related
emails without forwarding those emails to a government server. That is illegal.
Am I a lawyer that can tell you one way or the other? No. I can’t.
But the Government related emails belong to the government. Period.
Hillary knew exactly what she was doing as evidenced by your question
to me. But why does that preclude Gowdy not even trying to get that server.

Now I have a question for you. Gowdy recently issued a supeona for the emails only. Who is going to enforce that grandstanding email supeona from Gowdy?

who would you suggest could have made those indictments?

Before Gowdy - Issa had the responsibility of investigating but it was just a show, like everything else he does.

On a side note, a skilled prosecutor is all about timing.
They know when a witness will make the most impact on jury.

In this case, I am thinking of 2 points.

1. The sub-committee & chair Gowdy may have been more concerned about contents of Benghazi emails rather than which email server it was sent from.

2. If indeed incriminating evidence exists, bringing it out 20 months before election is tantamount to premature ejaculation. Voters are notorious for short memories.

Are you interested in finding the truth about Bengazi or using the deaths of four Americans
as a “Campaign Tool” for 2016.

It seems you are more interested in the latter, than the truth.
Which explains you and others support for Gowdy.

BTW, who is going to enforce the email supeona Gowdy issued?
In fact, issued on the same day the story leaked about Clintons emails?
Even though Gowdy has known about these emails for 6 months.

The truth will come out, if there is evidence of crime. Whether it comes out in March 2015 or October 2016, to quote Hilda, “what difference does it now make?”.

It is already 3+ years since Benghazi, and no one has gone to jail. I am willing to wait until Oct 2016 because then we kill 2 birds with one stone.

So you don’t even know that Gowdy has the authority to seize personal property, but you attack him anyway. Regardless of the fact that H. Clinton used a personal email server for government business, he cannot issue a legitimate subpoena to seize it unless he has the authority. It is apparent to me that he only has the authority to subpoena government business records directly related to his investigation, not any and all emails (and email servers) that would also likely be personal and private in nature.

There may very well be a criminal legal case (I sure hope so!) for the fact that H. Clinton did not forward government business related emails to a .gov account so that they would archived as required by law that puts her server at risk of seizure. But that is for criminal prosecutors (“Special Prosecutor”/DOJ/FBI) to pursue.

Regarding your attack against Gowdy that he only issued the email subpoena for “grandstanding” after the NYT “broke” the news is, IMHO, also unwarranted. The fact that Gowdy was going to issue the email subpoena was well known by the Dems on the investigation committee months ago. As is standard operating procedure for Dems, they leaked this to their liberal news media lapdogs in an attempt to front run the news and try to spin it in their favor. Dems have done this time and time again over the years. Rep. Trey Gowdy issued the email subpoena on his own original time schedule. The timing had nothing to do with the Dems/NYT pre-emptive “breaking news”.

But you have not answered mine.
Why are you ignoring it?

Who is going to enforce Gowdy’s email supeona?

Eric Holder won’t that’s for sure. If Romney was elected, we might have had a better result with attorney general behavior.

Yes, you admitted that you do not know that Gowdy has the legal authority to seize personal property. But that didn’t stop you from attacking him anyway. Thank you for at least being honest about that.

Congressional investigators apparently have very limited means to “enforce” a subpoena (to which I, as a limited government conservative, would argue is a VERY good thing!). But, please excuse me for missing your point. What does “subpoena enforcement” have to do with supporting your attacks against Rep. Gowdy?

If what you say is true, that congress has no means of enforcing this email
supeona, why did Gowdy do it?

Grandstanding. Nothing more.

I get it from many here.

It is not about finding the truth and holding those responsible for the deaths
of 4 Americans in Bengazi.
It is about using the deaths of 4 Americans as a campaign tool for 2016.

And I find that digusting. The GOP is not interested in finding the truth.

Gowdy has known from the beginning that a resolution to Hillary-evidence, especially in the form of emails, will not likely come to the light of day under this administration or the next election.

No one can enforce the Gowdy subpoena but the judge who issues it. The Justice Department will then put a deadbolt on the collection of any emails requested of him or his department.

The IRS only recently, through the work of some authorized individual associated with maybe the Inspector General, was able to physically find the warehoused emails of Lois Lerner. Besides, Hillary has surely shined up and scrubbed her wooly involvement that any emails would reveal, or the dupes on the Accountability Review Board should have had her crap vetted way back then.

Now how is anyone going to get into Hillary’s hen house in Chappaqua on their own volition like that and live to tell about it?

Besides, Gowdy has said a dozen times that he wants nothing from the blasted server but emails related to Libya and Benghazi. It is up to the government to kick the door down and that brings us back to the Justice Department.

I have a feeling Bill Clinton is enjoying this, actually, seeing the old girl tangled up in her own machine threads and off his case.
