It appears Hillary Clinton was conducting serious and sensitive international affairs on her private email account. She also kept up confidential correspondence with a political operative who hasnt worked for the government in over a decade.
The revelation that Secretary of State Clinton used a private e-mail account rather than an official State Department e-mail struck many as troubling and potentially criminal.
Experts in government transparency have debate the legality, and also the consequences of the emails. Patrice McDermott, head of Open The Government coalition, said:
What she did was not technically illegal. It was highly inappropriate and it was inappropriate for the State Department to let this happen, she said.
Some of the contents of Ms. Clintons emails have been revealed by an international hacker from Romania under the alias Guccifer. The Smoking Gun investigated details of Guccifers arrest in 2013 and discovered a trove of emails the convicted felon obtained when hacking American officials.
Guccifer broke into the email of Sidney Blumenthal, a former journalist who left The New Yorker for a job in the Clinton administration in 1997. He worked as a special advisor to President Clinton and often ran point on operations designed to fend off attacks during the scandals that plagued Clintons second term.
Blumenthal has not worked for the U.S. government since January 2001, when the Clinton administration ended. At the time, however, he was providing some high-level information gathering for the State Department, via direct communications with the Secretary herself.
Blumenthals correspondence appeared to contain highly classified information regarding serious international hotspots like Libya:
The memos to Clinton carried titles like Comprehensive Intel Report on Libya, and included all-cap warnings that, THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION COMES FROM EXTREMELY SENSITIVE SOURCES AND SHOULD BE HANDLED WITH CARE. Blumenthal has not held a public post since leaving his White House job in January 2001.
Each memo included a note on the sources of intelligence included in the document. One typical memo referred to Sources with access to the highest levels of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, the leadership of the Armed Forces, and Western Intelligence, diplomatic, and security services.
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) responded to the news of Clintons emails in a press conference Tuesday:
Only she has a complete record, and the committee is now going to have to go to her and her attorneys and her email providers to ensure we have the access to everything the American people are entitled to know, Gowdy said.
The Daily Beast investigated the Blumenthal emails in their provocatively titled article, How Safe Were Hillary Clintons Secrets? The question reveals how potentially damaging the emails could be.
According to reporter Shane Harris, Blumenthal would not respond to requests for comment.
Her top staffers used those Clinton email addresses at the agency, said the source, who has worked with Clinton in the past. The source named two staffers in particular, Philippe Reines and Huma Abedin, who are said to have used private email addresses in the course of their agency duties. Reines served as deputy assistant secretary of state, and Abedin as Clintons deputy chief of staff. Both rank among Clintons most loyal confidantes, in and out of the State Department.
We were able to independently verify that Abedin used a ClintonEmail.com address at some point in time. There are several email addresses associated with Abedins name in records maintained by Lexis-Nexis; one of them is huma@clintonemail.com. An email sent to that address today went through without bouncing.

The use of private email addresses may explain the State Departments puzzling response to several FOIA requests filed by Gawker in the past two years. One of our requests, in September 2012, sought correspondence between Reines and a variety of reporters, including former BuzzFeed reporter Michael Hastings, who engaged in a profanity-flecked exchange with Reines in 2012. That request was confoundingly denied on the grounds that the State Department had no record of Reineswhose job it was to communicate with reportersemailing Hastings or any other journalists (Gawker is currently appealing the rejection). Another request in June 2011 sought Abedin's email correspondence; the State Department rejected that one as well, although we could not immediately locate the denial letter to determine on what grounds.

Hillary Clinton Aide Tells Reporter To F*** Off And Have A Good Life
As the State Departments story about what happened in Benghazi crumbles, Clintons personal spokesperson, Philippe Reines, loses his temper. Have a good day. And by good day I mean F*** Off.
Count on it...
Obama will never support Hillary, so what better way than to let her implode from making her own misdeeds public?
So, a Romanian hacker sells his hack to the highest international bidder. How’s that globalization working out for you, lefties? Bill Clinton was one of its great champions, as his challenger Ross Perot pointed out regarding NAFTA, “That giant sucking sound is your jobs going to Mexico.”
Probably already has it.
DRIP.....DRIP.....DRIP.....................
Eric Hoteham = ie HRC at home.
She will probably be the next President of the US, regardless. Unless another relatively unknown Jr Sen gets in the race.
“She also kept up confidential correspondence with a political operative who hasnt worked for the government in over a decade.”
Worse than what Petraeus just pleaded guilty for?
Add that to a potential Contempt of Congress of not supplying those emails to the last Benghazi investigation and breaking federal rules of using email other than the government system.
Three strikes.
End her run for the presidency? Doubt it. She has way too many excuses makers, including her unpaid media staff.
Has anyone ever seen a photo of 3 together - Hillary and Weiner together with Hummer?
If "Eric Hoteham" were to meet "Carlos Danger," would Hummer Abedin's taqiyya explodes.
And the idiots will vote for her because of her plumbing.
“explodes.” “explode?”

I take literally anyone who advocates for open government that supports Obama and Kerry as a joke.
Didn’t General Petraeus just plead guilty for pretty much the same thing, unauthorized removal and retention of classified material?
A fact you won’t hear discussed on the “ evening news”
The question was asked....I answered with what I thought the truth was in his situation.
I never connected his downfall to what Hillary intentionally did which in my opinion was DEFINITELY a criminal act that was intended from its inception.
Genius is like disease here at FR. Apparently you have caught it. Congratulations. You will become famous for this.
There are many more ____@clintonemail.com account holders......count on it.
All that’s needed is the blanket.
