ATF pushes bullet ban, threatens top-selling AR-15 rifle
Fox News ^ | February 27, 2015 | Paul Bedard / ·Washington Examiner

It’s starting.

As promised, President Obama is using executive actions to impose gun control on the nation, targeting the top-selling rifle in the country, the AR-15 style semi-automatic, with a ban on one of the most-used AR bullets by sportsmen and target shooters.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives this month revealed that it is proposing to put the ban on 5.56mm ammo on a fast track, immediately driving up the price of the bullets and prompting retailers, including the huge outdoors company Cabela’s, to urge sportsmen to urge Congress to stop the president.

As I’ve read only the 62grain steel tipped (Green tip) ammo is under fire. Not the 55grain ball round.

I don’t like it but this being called the “End of the AR15” is unwarranted.

How many people are actually shot each year with an AR-15 in the USA? I bet more people are hit by lightning.

It may not be the "End" but it is the beginning of the end of the 2nd Amendment if allowed to progress. As I recall a few years back the SCOTUS opined that ammunition was indeed part of the protected material under the 2nd amendment. Anyone else remember that ruling?

Forgive me if I'm paranoid, but this is how they get a foot in the door. NEVER give libfux (I think I just made up a word) an inch because a mile is never enough.

Of course, but this is merely turning the heat up.

You just know the end goal will be all 5.56 / .223 ammunition is to be declared "Military ammo" and banned as "unnecessary for the hunter".

Then "sniper" rifle ammo in .308.

These are just small steps and as long as they all head in the "right" direction (total disarmament) they're happy to bide their time.

It’s an “armor piercing round”. You can shoot through an elementary school with it. I’ve seen one round blow up a school bus full of special needs kids. Why does anyone need a special needs school bus killer bullet?

I bought 200 rnds 5.56 and 200 rnds of 223 yesterday to add to my inventory. My AR 180 is designed for the 5.56 but will also shoot the 223 with no problem. I will keep the 223 rnds in reserve (if not needed) as a trade item.

“I don’t like it but this being called the “End of the AR15” is unwarranted.”

A previous post about an article from the NRA reported the executive order would seek to ban most center fire ammunition. The rim-fire ammunition would be affected by other executive actions.

The “problem” with the AR-15 is that it is a very effective tyranny deterrent.

This is just another case of the camel with his nose in the tent. Anyone who believes the anti-Second Amendment crowd will be satisfied with this infringement is willfully stupid.

The power mad Socialists have to get rid of the First Amendment, controlling the internet, and the Second Amendment, which allows citizens to fight for freedom when necessary.

This reminds me of the Black Talon (Cop Killer) bullets that were banned in the 80’s. The ATF’s position is fairly consistent with that.

Considering all the stunts the Zero’s minions have pulled the ATF seems to be a little more even handed. They couldn’t have picked a worse time to do this. They may have thought they could do this under the radar with the Net Neutrality and Immigration crap going on.

The Founders designed American government so as not to have any “fast track”. Slow and steady or goes the liberty.

Your Action Urgently Needed to Prevent BATFE from Banning Common Rifle Ammunition!
NRA-ILA ^ | Wednesday, February 18, 2015 | NRA-ILA

While the most visible and immediate effect of the framework is BATFE’s revocation of the “sporting purposes” exemption for M855 ammunition, its long-term consequences could be even more severe. Once an “AP” projectile designed and intended by the manufacturer to be used in a rifle (for hunting, for example) “may be” shot from any commercially available multi-shot handgun, it could never be exempt under the framework (unless loaded in a .22 caliber rimfire cartridge). Basically, this means the virtual banning of non-lead centerfire rifle bullets, even as gun control activists and states are targeting lead bullets for separate bans. This collision of bans on both lead and non-lead bullets could eventually lead to a drastic reduction in lawfully-available ammunition offerings.

Death of 1000 cuts. They will not stop until all guns are banned. My point was how much of a threat are AR-15’s? Probably pretty low compared to handguns. But they are scary. Military looking Assault Rifles. An easier target. Once they ban them,.........well, handguns will be easier since more people die with handguns and we already banned AR-15. It will never stop.

It would be much harder to defend your family from thugs or a tyrannical government with a crossbow, golf club,...

They are gonna nibble around the edges rather than attempting a bite out the middle. Beware of them trying to lull you into thinking nothing bad is happening. There is a liberty destroying motive behind every move they make.

From what I understand, this is the armor piercing ammo that they are going after. Why would everyday patriots need something that powerful, you ask?

Don’t you suppose that ISIS or any rogue government, including the United States Military under the leadership of a communist dictator, will come after us wearing armor? And if a ragtag band of Muslim “extremists” can’t afford it, Obama the Benevolent will surely supply it. Our firepower has to be able to match the worst of the worst or we might as well be fighting for our very existence with nothing more than sticks and stones. The regime knows this. Never, never trust them.
