Gordon Van Gilder, a 72-year-old retired schoolteacher in New Jersey, faces a 10-year prison sentence for possessing an unloaded 18th-century flintlock pistol in his car.
Mr. Van Gilder, a collector of 18th-century memorabilia, said he had the gun unloaded and wrapped in a cloth in the glove compartment of his vehicle when he was pulled over in November by a Cumberland County sheriffs deputy for a minor traffic violation, according to a video posted last week by NRA News.
After consenting to a search of his vehicle, Mr. Van Gilder said he alerted the deputy of the pistol in his glove box. The deputy let him go that night, but four police officers showed up at his home the next morning with an arrest warrant, he told NRA News.
Beware of New Jersey. Dont come here. Dont live here, Mr. Van Gilder said. Here I am, a retired teacher coming out of his house in handcuffs, who had a flintlock pistol and now Im charged as a felon. Its unbelievable. Its outrageous. Its an insult to decent people.

I thought the second amendment for sure covered musketts and flintlocks......?????
Well supposedly according to libs...
After consenting to a search of his vehicle. HELL NO!
We are no longer a free people. It’s done and over.
Governor Crispy Cream does not need to be president.
There was a thread on this yesterday. Someone posted the New Jersey law. The law is crazy, but antique pistols are included.
New Jersey: An “Insult to Decent People”.
Mistake number 1.
Mr. Van Gilder said he alerted the deputy of the pistol in his glove box.
Mistake number 2.
If you live in New Jersey and you own guns, repeat after me, "No. I do not consent to a search. Am I free to go or are you detaining me?"
And it is still a violation of the 2dA.
Joisey.
where sanity is optional..
and only criminals carry pieces.
No way he should have done this.
Barry’s maintenance cost is astronomical, especially when one understands the fact that his occupancy of the White Hut is illegal. But to envision what New Jersey’s lard ass will gobble up would be scary.
Barry the Parasite is off much of the time, but when he’s awake he’s spending billions upon billions if not for himself then for the lazy-assed bloodsuckers we have to support.
1. Why is a cop looking into someones glove box without a warrant.
2. How could a people be so stupid to allow such laws exist.
3. How could a cop or cops be so anti-American that they would enforce a law so obviously unconstitutional. That means that they would enforce ANY law ... think boxcars.
This is a VERY abbreviated list as this arrest and prosecution is so wrong on so many levels
The Second Amendment is intended to protect decent people from a government like they have in New Jersey.
FIRST MISTAKE!
All downhill from there. Hopefully common-sense will prevail and this man will avoid jail-time. But, this is NJ we we are talking about so little chance of that.
Biding my time by leveraging a good-paying job, and aggressively socking away my pennies for my eventual exit from the PRNJ.
I wish this man all the best.
Can you carry a handgun if it’s in a case or the trunk. How are you supposed to transport in New Jersey?
Can you carry a handgun if its in a case or the trunk. How are you supposed to transport in New Jersey?
First mistake, even considering going through that state and to the south, Maryland.
No that was his second mistake. His first was living in NJ.
Never ever, never, never, never give consent. Give them consent to allow you to call your lawyer and have him present. Otherwise, tell them to get a dog, get a news crew, get a f@cking warrant. NEVER !
