The return of the egg? New dietary guidelines may downplay cholesterol risks

Eating a whole egg, yolks and all, has gotten a bad reputation over the years, but new dietary guidelines may send egg white-only omelets by the wayside. The recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, which are now under review, are expected to downplay the importance of lowering cholesterol intake.

The most recent set of guidelines in 2010 recommended consuming less than 300 milligrams per day of dietary cholesterol, which is about the amount in one egg.

In the coming weeks, the committee is expected to release the report for use by the Agriculture and Health and Human Services Departments to write the final version of the 2015 dietary guidelines, due by the end of this year.

For decades, the government has warned against diets high in cholesterol. But now many nutritionists believe that cholesterol intake may not significantly impact cholesterol blood levels or increase the risk of heart disease in healthy adults, according to the Washington Post.

Now that’s a good looking breakfast. Whenever I eat in a Bob Evans, I order breakfast day or night.

Agreed. Count Carbs, not Cals.

We have a few diehard pyramid worshippers here on FR. They are a very obnoxious tag team. Haven't heard much from them lately. Probably tube chewing in an ICU.

You can drink Whiskey, Vodka and Gin on the Low Carb diet however with one caveat. You will not lose weight until the calories are consumed, but will stay in ketosis.

Just something that makes life worth living and drives progressives mad.

Those of us who have to deal with severe type II diabetes know full well the virtues of eggs, butter and fatty meats. It’s the other stuff we have to watch out for.

Mom’s side of the family operated a chicken hatchery. We ate eggs for breakfast every day. Mom was always the firat to point out the scam of beating up eggs as a cholesterol source, as if you do not consume it, your body will produce the hormone itself.

Eat the toast... after slathering it with REAL butter... not that soybean squeezin’s crap they pass off as a “healthier choice”.

p.s. needs pork chops or steak...though I like hash too.

Easiest way to diet is to read ingredients... if it contains soy, put it back on the shelf and let the uninformed eat it.

I would have eggs set aside just to hard boil en masse. Fresh eggs are a bitch to peel... I would let them age a couple weeks and when I had an oversupply, it was time to make pickled eggs or egg salad with soybean oil free mayonnaise.

yes, Mexican Coke if it is available, otherwise Coca Cola that is not diet...

i just had a big plate of mixed baby greens, cucumber, avocado, halved grape tomatoes, green onion, pepitas (little pumpkin seeds) and crunched up croutons and blue cheese... i like to use apple cider vinegar and oil (olive or avocado or what i have on hand) with a dash of sugar for dressing... sometimes i add chili flakes or lemon juice...

vamos a comer!
