Ajit Pai, the sole Republican Commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), inferred in a Tweet that President Barack Obama’s secret, 332-page “Net Neutrality” document is a scheme for federal micro-managing of the Internet to extract billions in new taxes from consumers and again enforce progressives’ idea of honest, equitable, and balanced content fairness.

It’s as neutral as the government is, so not at all.

Expecting the RINO / GOPe wing to roll over for this - actually, they probably support it and have been collaborating.

Exactly. The establishment/RINO’s wan’t to shut down those pesky TEA partiers and ALL conservatives.

Can they do anything about it since it is the FCC who is doing it? I know it was Obamas idea but I am not sure if they can smack the FCC down.

Whimper about it, go hide, take their secretary out ... who knows? But basically, nothing.

The problem isn’t necessarily with the proposed ‘Net Neutrality’ regulations per se, but rather that the FCC wants to regulate the Internet like a public utility. They are merely using NN as the means to sneak the camel’s nose inside the the tent.

After they establish the precedent with NN, then the Feds can roll their sleeves up and really go to town. As public utilities, Comcast, TWC, etc., will be at the whim of the Feds just like any other public utility.

Expect to see the Fairness Doctrine resurrected (but not named as such), new anti-hate-speech regs, and other supressions of speech. Nothing is impossible at that point because they are now public utilities, so the First Amendment and other civil rights can now be trampled in the ‘public interest’.

Tell me about it, I don’t know what ticks me off more, the Kenyan or them. Every last one of them should be voted out of office because they do NOT rep the people who elected them in the least. They are backstabbing frauds and if it was up to me every last one of them would be arrested for treason.

This is a wild overreach of the FCC’s original mandate. The FCC was originally created to manage a scare resource: the radio frequency spectrum. They allocated chunks of spectrum for different uses (TV, radio, maritime, law enforcement, air-traffic-control, etc). And since it’s a limited resource they can regulate over-the-air TV stations since they are only stewards of a scare resource. That is how the ‘family hour’ was mandated back in the 1970s, where all programming had to be kid-safe until at least 9 p.m. local time.

The Internet’s bandwidth is potentially infinite. Except for WiFi and cell phones (which use spectrum and thus can be legitimately regulated) there is absolutely NO justification for the FCC’s power grab of wired communication.

The FCC is using the Telecommunications Act of 1996 (amendment to 47 U.S.C. §151) is to “make available so far as possible, to all the people of the United States, without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex, rapid, efficient, Nation-wide, and world-wide wire and radio communication services with adequate facilities at reasonable charges... for the purpose of promoting safety of life and property through the use of wire and radio communications.”

See how they slipped in ‘wire’ like that? (It’s to prevent discrimination, you see, /sarc)

Before 1996 wired communication was under the jurisdiction of Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC), which owned ICANN and ran the top-level Internet DNS servers as a benign agency with minimal interference.

But of course Obama is now in the process of transferring ICANN to an international body.

This must be stopped. That said, I doubt any of those quisling buffoons in DC have the stones to do just that!

It is amazing, isn’t it. My niece was mentioning the same thing. So far, the new 2014 midterms netted nothing.

Yep. A classic setup for capture of a regulatory body by the regulated entity. Gosh, it’s like it was intentional or something..

As in the Affordable Care Act is affordable to chosen people, but not the average middle class citizen, and maybe not anyone in the long run.

Obama’s favorite website for NAMBLA will now be assured to get the same treatment Netflix receives for web traffic.

There is nothing good that will come from this.
