US threats to arm Ukraine a 'bluff', say EU diplomats

American threats to arm Ukraine are a "bluff" aimed at making Russia blink as the crisis in east Ukraine deepens, according to senior EU diplomats.

Angela Merkel and François Hollande’s mission to Moscow comes following a “radical deterioration” and Western intelligence showing “beyond doubt” that thousands of Russian are fighting in Ukraine, senior diplomats said.

The general consensus among Western diplomats, including Nato, is that there is no military solution to the Ukraine crisis although attitudes are hardening in Washington as fears grow that Kiev is on the edge of military and economic collapse.

One European diplomat said that reports of American plans to provide defensive arms to Ukraine showed a shift in sentiment but “we don’t see much evidence that President Obama has much enthusiasm”.

Another senior EU diplomat said: “No one seriously wants to start sending arms. It is a bluff.”

According to senior sources, the German Chancellor and French President “scrambled on to their plane” because of growing fears that Ukraine’s government is on the brink of collapse and the conflict is “on the edge of something palpably worse”

The rhetoric is all over the place, but the Euros seem to be trying hard in the last 48 hours to tamper down the rhetoric coming out of the Obamunists in DC.

So is Obama weak just like you want him to be, or is he too strong for you in regards to standing up to Russia?

Obama will appease Putin and not send arms.

Putin defenders and Putin appeasers will applaud Obama's appeasement.

Obama's style is to arm revolutionaries everywhere, creating vacuums that are filled by terrorist groups. Europe's leaders should be worried. They have Muslim extemists in great numbers living in Europe, they have the threat of ISIS getting a port on the Med, and they could on their eastern flank have armed neo-Nazis. They have Greece that doesn't want to pay its EU bills and Turkey that's problematic as a NATO ally.

Obama seems to want to destroy any semblence of successful western-oriented civilization. Arming Ukraine could easily lead to all-out war that spills over from Ukraine's borders.

I gotta admit I'm worried that Obama will decide the best way to fundamentally transform the US is to get us into an all out fight with the Russians in their own backyard.

In his twisted mind a humiliating defeat costing tens of thousands of lives, the military's credibility and what little taxpayer money he hasn't yet spent may be just what we racist/imperialists deserve.

What if the Russians, again, decide Cuba could use nukes again? Next time they’ll just sneak them into place without warning.
