NFL finds Patriots used underinflated footballs
Boston Globe ^ | 1-21-15 | Ben Volin

Posted on 01/21/2015 6:57:45 AM PST by Colehill1999

The Patriots used underinflated footballs on Sunday night.

The next question is how did it happen?

According to a National Football League letter about the investigation into the controversy that was shared with the Globe, the Patriots were informed that the league’s initial findings indicated that the game balls did not meet specifications. The league inspected each of the Patriots’ 12 game balls twice at halftime, using different pressure gauges, and found footballs that were not properly inflated.

According to ESPN, 11 of the 12 game balls were found to be underinflated by about 2 pounds each. The NFL specifications say they must be inflated to 12½ to 13½ pounds.

The NFL is like professional wrestling

You got that right.

Celebrating, posturing, and posing after every play offensively and defensively.

The NFL is all about the MONEY, the SHOW and little else.

Why are teams allowed to handle their own balls? The referees should be the only one handling them.

You might want to rephrase that post of yours ... LOL

Sorry I don’t have a video clip, but the Marx Brothers demonstrated all you need to know about football in Horse Feathers.

If the Colt who caught the interception knew something was wrong with the ball, all the players handling the ball on the offense should have known.

My question, why didn't the ref who places the ball not know.

NBA. My brother swears the Jordan ‘early retirement’ was actually a 2-year suspension for gambling, just done behind the scenes to save face for MJ and the NBA as a league.

Okay, I'm in Arizona and I will volunteer to go to the super bowl and squeeze Tom Brady's balls in between every down to check for the proper inflation.

Someone has to do it.

That is the quietly accepted wisdom on that. Not said by people who need to maintain a professional relationship with Jordan, but muttered often by people who don’t.

” (secret videotaping of future opponents to steal their play signals) “

Everybody did it. Just the Pats were not as secret.

“I hear tell that nitrogen is more stable than fresh air during temperature changes to pressure.”

1. Fresh air is MOSTLY nitrogen.
2. Please review Physics 101.

“That’s one reason we are seeing it used more often in vehicle tires.”

The reason we are seeing it more is MARKET HYPE.

” I see pressure monitors in each and every football, with a transponder that transmits the current pressure to remote receivers that display and record all of the information to a databank in some remote facility.”

Players are embedded with force and gps transmitters. No doubt soon the ball will have a transmitter so the coach can get feedback on pass performance.

That’s a good point. Not wanting 90mph+ in the neck also keeps players from breaking out the celebration dances and chest slapping after every other play.

“Just confounding. Something stinks in the NFL and it ain’t the consideration of a few deflated balls.”

I was thinking the same thing with that interception by the Packers with 5 minutes to go. The one Packer tells the guy to slide to the ground. I’m sure they figured they would just play it safe (with Seattle playing so crappy to that point), but I could almost see a bubble with the guy yelling “Take a dive - coach doesn’t want us to beat the spread!”

I used to coach girl’s soccer and was always stuck in my own head and my own plan, and wouldn’t see match-ups that needed to be changed. Luckily I had a dad that saw stuff and he would suggest changes. Or - I wonder if they thought Sherman was faking it.
