NFL finds Patriots used underinflated footballs
Boston Globe ^ | 1-21-15 | Ben Volin

Posted on 01/21/2015 6:57:45 AM PST by Colehill1999

The Patriots used underinflated footballs on Sunday night.

The next question is how did it happen?

According to a National Football League letter about the investigation into the controversy that was shared with the Globe, the Patriots were informed that the league’s initial findings indicated that the game balls did not meet specifications. The league inspected each of the Patriots’ 12 game balls twice at halftime, using different pressure gauges, and found footballs that were not properly inflated.

According to ESPN, 11 of the 12 game balls were found to be underinflated by about 2 pounds each. The NFL specifications say they must be inflated to 12½ to 13½ pounds.

Colts should take Pats to court to end their cheating once and for all. NFL isn't going to do squat.

My question is what now? They just get away with it right? They arent going to replay the game. Patriots still go to the Super Bowl. What does this say about cheating if you end up getting away with it because the game is already played and there’s no going back to fix things???

Just like air pressure in tires on s car, doesn’t the air temp have a + or - effect on pressure ? Sure it does.

Look at the pressure on balls from many more games and see.

Like cheating in an election. Pay a fine, the ruling stands.

invalid argument.

Colts: all 12 balls properly inflated

Pats: 11 of 12 UNDERinflated. With one ball to show the refs.

CHeaters. Period.

Full disclosure, I hate the Pats, I hate the Colts even worse (owner sucks). However, this sentence says it all-

The Patriots led, 17-7, at intermission, and outscored the Colts, 28-0, after the officials seemingly corrected the ball issue.

When it's cold the football becomes a brick unless you deflate it. So now we know why the Pats won.

Ridiculous for New England Pats to Cheat like that.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time the Pats got caught cheating again.

I say the Pats just forfeited their ticket to the Super Bowl. Give it to the Colts.

I'm sorry but the Pats should not be rewarded for cheating.

The Patriots cheat almost every game, every year. Nothing new here.

They are the most despicable team in the NFL and are owned and managed by some of the most despicable, honor-less people.

No one will do anything about this, but as is already the case, most real football fans don’t really take their titles or wins seriously. Talk about constant *s.

Hopefully loser Tommy B looses again in the SB. If they win, it is another discredited and wasted NFL season. Although based on all the nonsense that went on this year, that might be an appropriate finish.

Sometimes taking a decent amount of lead makes a huge difference as it takes away the run from the other team as they try to catch up fast, which makes defending much easier, which makes the score even more lopsided if the other team is not able to close the gap quickly. So no, having a blow-out in the 2nd half is irrelevant.

The Pats just got caught cheating. Kick their cheating a$$ to the curb.

Give it to the Colts.

I don’t know either way and I don’t really care either way.

But they said it was 55 degrees out. How much hotter indoors would it have to be to make that difference?

The balls are inspected ahead of time (every ball? I’m not certain on that.) If so how were these tampered with.

Does two pounds of pressure really make that big of a difference? The outcome would have been similar would it not?

It does irk me that professionals make simple mistakes/error like this, if it is a cheat then glad they got caught. More exposure of how it was done and who did it would be great!

Agreed. Pats have a PROVEN trackrecord of cheating. Belchivikdick needs to be banned from football just like they banned Pete Rose from MLB.

Of course it won’t happen. The NFL is like professional wrestling - all staged it seems. Or at least a preferred winner is designated and refs do what they can to move it in their direction?? Who knows. But with all the murderers, rapists, wife beaters, druggies in the NFL - sorry Rush, maybe its time for the NFL to cease and something else take its place.

In all likelihood, the penalty will be a big fine and the forfeiture of draft picks. Yank all the picks this upcoming draft and send a message; that will hurt.

True, but if the ball is warmed back up to room temperature, the pressure should not be 1 to 2 psi lower than at the beginning of the game. Plus, it is odd that 11 of 12 balls for one team did not meet the limits, while the all of the other team's balls did.

Now-a-days , society encourages cheating. The outcome of cheating and winning but getting caught is almost always more favorable than playing fair and losing, and only negligibly (and inconsequentially) worse than playing fair and winning.
In politics, in football, in grades, in projects at businesses, in contracts, in EVERYTHING, really.

I mean I can cheat, make 20 million I would have never made, and then perhaps get caught and pay back 2 million of it and maybe sit in jail for 6 months. But after that, I still have 18 millie! YEAH BOY!

That’s the good ‘ol USA these days, folks.
