‘American Sniper’: 5 Reasons for Historic Breakout at Box Office

The electrifying $90.2 million wide opening of “American Sniper” – shattering records for the best January openings by tens of millions of dollars — stunned box office analysts and even distributor Warner Bros. Sunday.

“We’ve never seen anything like this,” Dan Fellman, head of domestic distribution at Warner Bros. told TheWrap.

The Clint Eastwood-directed Iraq War saga starring Bradley Cooper was on pace to top $100 million over the four-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend, uncharted territory for a movie at this time of year. It was an explosive and historic start for Village Roadshow’s R-rated “American Sniper,” which was adapted by Jason Hall from the late U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s autobiography.

Yep...the leftists’ comments are showing us (again) how they hate America and our Judeo-Christian morals and courage.

Man, I'm with you!

We should start a thread in 3 months to talk about the film. I hesitate to say to much now.

What would be a kewel movie theme is get two hapless idiots together, send em to North Korea under the auspice of interviewing Dear Leader but, bumble over their true mission and assasinate him.

The script should be pedantic, adolscelent and use plenty of cuss words with no real purpose and a total lack of ingenuity or creativity.

Then have Shiite for CGI and make the pace of the movie extremely quick but, with no tempo.

Now that would sell a bazillion tickets.

But 1st you’d need to PR it to death with an extraordinary tale of being hacked and having more than 40 different operating systems, unique software, editing, viewing and award keys violated and throw in some salacious but, idioticly benign emails.

But, the emails should be very specific and you shouldn’t release all of them, en masse. Just a few lines.

Then top that off with manufactured threats to SONY and the USA that have zero chance of ever happening, cuz North Korea can only throw a rock so far.

And finally, release four movie products on torrent sites but, but.... BUT not the one that supposedly offends. No save that for its actual release date.

But, wait!!! There’s more.

Get the three largest movie chains to invent the the excuse they won’t show the film for security reasons, not because it sucks louder than an airliner jet engine and would waste valuable real estate screens.

Now, blow some $44 million on the whole thing and see if you can make a profit on maybe $6 million dollars in sales, now a month later.

Clint makes incredible products.

They are compelling, move the heart and memorable.

I’ll never forget Kyle’s struggle to not want to shoot the boy and the lady at the beginning of the movie but, was ultimately given no other choice.

And then his anguish to whisper, from his perch, to a little boy “please don’t pick it up. Please don’t pick it up....Oh please put it down...don’t don’t “

The relief that he didn’t have to take that little boy’s life came off the screen. I and several men around me put our hands to our mouths during that scene and then our mouths just dropped open. Our hands rubbing around our gape, I think searching for our humanity and hoping God was still with us.

Incredible film.

I’ll buy the disc when it comes out, to help our soldiers and his family but, I doubt I’ll ever watch it again.

Just can’t

Because it is all about Hollywood finding someone that is okay to hate. America is no longer, from the elites view about recognizing that we are all American, or true patriotism, but about pushing some people as more important than others.

I did see it.

The screen was blurry to me at the end.

So Hollywood is stunned that Americans are still patriotic and enjoy patriotic films far more than the anti-war drivel that has been put out ever since 9/11.

“The lessons for us here is to realize the depravity of the enemy we face in the Muslims – an enemy who dances on corpses, displays body parts as souvenirs, who distributes candy to celebrate death of an adversary. Against such a ghoulish adversary, we are fully within our rights to use nuclear weapons to reduce the enemy to radioactive dust across the entire swath of the Islamic crescent from Morocco through Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Arabia, Iran, Pakistan up to Malaysia and the Indonesian archipelago.”

Absolutely! And we’ll just make sure to to put Spoiler Alert in the title, for those who still haven’t seen it. But, yes, we’ll wait a couple months.

I think it’s a little bit of a reactionary response to the racist whiners crying about the snubbing of Selma, on top of the summer and fall we’ve had with the Mike Brown farce. I know the thought of going to see American Sniper appealed to me even more than it originally did just because I wanted to pile on.

“Won’t be watching it again though. Once was all I could bear.”

Amen.

I have not been able to make myself watch “Private Ryan.” I know that I will be a sobbing mess during all of it, if just only thinking about those guys does that to me. I cry during most war movies.

I know my sweet Darlin is chomping at the bit to see “Sniper” so I’m going to have to suck it up and take lots of hankies.

We have a relative who was with a convoy who was attacked and he held one of his men in his arms while he died. Just thinking of his story shakes me to the core, and I pray daily for him and all our beloved brave young people. We are so blessed to have them, and they deserve ALL of the support we can muster for them.

But like yourself, I imagine that only once seeing “Sniper” will be enough.

“character of the men who fought.”

Judging people by their character, what an unusual concept. You would think it would be in the Constitution or one of our nation’s leaders would be voicing it.

Do I really need to put a sarc on it?

“...I’m so glad Speilberg dropped out of directing this and it was Eastwood. A big time leftie like Spielberg would never have done it justice.

If we only had men in leadership in this country with half as much of a sense of duty as Chris Kyle the country would be in great shape.”
*****************************************************************************************************
Yep, if Spielberg had directed, it may well have presented Chris Kyle as a sociopath owing to his suppressed homosexuality. So, with Clint Eastwood, we get a true reflection of the realities instead of agitprop.
