From the release:

“Effective with the release of January 2015 data on February 6, 2015, new population controls will be used in the Current Population Survey (CPS) estimation process. These new controls reflect the annual updating of intercensal population estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau. In accordance with usual practice, historical data will not be revised to incorporate the new
controls; consequently, household survey data for January 2015 will not be directly comparable with data for December 2014 or earlier periods. A table showing the effects of the new controls on the major labor force series will be included in the January 2015 news release.”

I saw a program yesterday on Newsmax TV news channel. The guy they had on as a guest was showing the true numbers on unemployment. He said when everyone is included that are out of work, it is more like 24% unemployed. One in four cannot find a job.

“The recovery is sluggish because of things like ObamaCare and all the regulations coming out of DC.”

My husband’s power plant just laid off 25% of the workforce. They are on the verge of bankruptcy and the rest could go any time now.

The culprit? Carbon credits and all the other regulations.

Good luck to you! It has to be incredibly frustrating to hear how wonderful the economy is while you can’t find the work you want.

What profession are you in?

It’s pretty bad when both parties are telling the same lie.

Most of this growth is “McJobs”
A term not seen in the MSM since Jan 2009.

My neighbor went from being an exec at a small mfg company to a Lowes red vest. Counts the same here.

The unemployment number is the most tortured statistic in existence. It should sue for protection under the Geneva Conventions!

You must be in California, New York, Illinois, or one of the other liberal states that call “Full time” 20 hours. Those states also have higher minimum wages that kick in at those hours.

Engineer.

Thanks.

I quit years ago to raise my son.

Now it’s time to return (plus, we ran out of my money and need more to supplement my husband’s very good pay, but somehow not enough....)

Just wait until oil prices spike up back to $150/bbl. This will happen quickly and have a massive impact on our economy, including massive layoffs. The oil fields will have trouble getting back up and running, and may be barred by executive action from doing so.

New Math according to Obama & Co.
Now that we can’t compare data, how will we know if things have improved?
Next thing you know they’ll have a ‘Happiness Index’ instead of GDP, BLS statistics etc...

Yeah, play around with the denominator in this ratio, and you can force this metric to say anything.

317 milliion people
-30 million under 14

287 Million over 15 (possible workers)
-27 Million Seniors over 65

260 Million adults who could work? Uunsure of disabled no’s.

93 Million not working

93 divided by 260 equals about 36% of adults not working....how does that relate to 5.6%?
