President Barack Obama on Friday will propose making two years of community college free for students.
In a White House video posted Thursday evening, Obama said he wanted to offer “a little preview” of his plans for the Jan. 20 State of the Union address.
“What I’d like to do is to see the first two years of community college free for everybody who’s willing to work for it,” Obama said. “It’s something we can accomplish, and it’s something that will train our workforce so that we can compete with anybody in the world.”
The proposal would make two years of community college free for students with a C+ average who attend school at least half-time and who are making “steady progress” toward their degree.

Free? Are the professors teaching for free too? Is Obama paying the professors out of his “stash”? Is Obama using our money to pay for this program, or is he borrowing so he can use our children’s money to pay for today’s promises?
Liberals disgust me. To buy something with other people’s money when we are unwilling to pay for it today knowing it’s not worth having at the price - that is foolish. To do so with money from those too young to vote or even understand because our children cannot defend themselves against corrupt adults - that is evil.
It ain’t free.
I don’t understand what Zero is doing with Community College, because there is already a Pell Grant for Community College for students, whose parents earn under a certain amount of money...based on the last years Income Tax filed. In my state they get a State Grant as well.
Grant meaning it never has to be paid back.
A Pell Grant for students from families with limited income covers Community College.
All of this rubbish from an unknown who got off AF One and told Hawaiians they live in a beautiful part of Asia. (Not racist, of course).
For every thing Obama gives away, all Congress need do is fund that item out of other pet Obama projects. But right now, I doubt Congress would even provide serious opposition to an edict requiring everyone to walk on their hands.

Community college is to get the real dumb ones up to the 7th grade level.
Most of them will still read at 7th grade level, but they’ll have an AA degree to frame and hang on the wall.
Good to know. So this is just a giveaway to families who should already be able to afford it.
This will just be grade 13 and 14. Endless childhood.
What we should be doing instead is reducing the number of years of public education to 8 or 10 grades at the most (with the same educational attainment expected now in 12 grades).
Isn’t this just what we have now? The young people have two years of college if they work for it.

Work for it? By serving 2 years in Baraks private army. Remember he wanted a civil army equal in size and training to the military? And that Soviets were required by law to serve 2 years in the military upon graduating high school. So is Barak going have them “work” off student debt by “serving” him in his private militia. Those promoted/retained will be “loyalists” ....we really are speeding toward banana republic territory fast.

Not necessarily, but it is a grant and there is a limit on amount of income. This is a good program for one parent families who actually could not afford college. This grant also covers education in practical skills and trades.
Those two to three years of Community College can give a HS graduate the education needed to go to work. For example:
RN, Heating/AC Techs, EMT, Criminal Justice (policeman) and BLET, Medical Transcription, Cosmetology, etc.
The Pell Grant has a deadline for application around April 30?? It is based on the previous years Income Tax Filings.
This program is also good for adults who have been laid off and need to retrain to get a job. The good part of Community College is one does not have to travel far, and can live at home.
Community college where you go when you can’t go to regular College!
There’s no jobs - he makes it sound like 2 yrs of community college is a path toward a better life. Jobs are a path to a better life. Those who graduate will discover they spent 2 years in college and have improved their skills but there are no jobs.
This is step one in forgiving student loans, or lons incurred during the first two years.
