Not necessarily, but it is a grant and there is a limit on amount of income. This is a good program for one parent families who actually could not afford college. This grant also covers education in practical skills and trades.
Those two to three years of Community College can give a HS graduate the education needed to go to work. For example:
RN, Heating/AC Techs, EMT, Criminal Justice (policeman) and BLET, Medical Transcription, Cosmetology, etc.
The Pell Grant has a deadline for application around April 30?? It is based on the previous years Income Tax Filings.
This program is also good for adults who have been laid off and need to retrain to get a job. The good part of Community College is one does not have to travel far, and can live at home.
