A Kansas City auto repair shop employee made a snap decision Monday when a woman drove off without paying for repairs.
He jumped on the roof of her Cadillac Escalade and held on during a high-speed, three-mile ride that ended outside Kansas City police headquarters.
Another auto shop employee followed in another vehicle and told police that he tried to stop the Cadillac by firing shots at its tires. One of the bullets hit the drivers side door.
Police said it was a miracle that no one was injured in the incident that began shortly before 3 p.m. Monday at 24th Street and Indiana Avenue.
According to police reports, a woman who had left her vehicle at the shop for repairs was told she needed to pay $3,000 and would owe an additional $700 storage fee if she left it there.

Been there, done that.
Not sure if you're parents or not. But do you ever stop and wonder how you'd feel if you found out our kids did half the crap we used to do? Maybe you're more laid back. I know if I ever found out my teenage girls did anything close in cars that I used to do, I think it might be the end of me.

Like crawling from one car window to the other at 75 miles an hour on the freeway for fun, or blind folding the driver and talking him through driving, or driving cars without windshield wipers in Houston rains, and cars with no brakes, towing cars with 4’ chains on the freeways, or flying off the big bump on the country road at 120mph, repeatedly, on bald tires that were bought used, all before seat belts and air bags, and when the dashboard looked like a work bench that OSHA wouldn’t approve?
Cars used to be the center of our lives, and today some kids don’t even want a driver’s license.

Lets talk about trying to shoot out tires while you are driving....
Are you left handed?
You better be driving off the right corner panel of the target vehicle and aiming at the left rear tire.
If you hit either right tire the vehicle will steer right into you.
Small angle of attack and high speed.
Oh...did I mention the chances of the target vehicle rolling and killing your buddy on top?
Let me know where you might practice this tactic......

NTSB is bad too. Several years ago I took my SUV into them for repair and they told me it was going to cost $1,100! Took it to another shop and they charged me just a little over $300 for the exact same repair!

Three grand vets you one third of the way to a new engine. Not all that big of a bill today. Ten grand is common for repairing a sixty thousand dollar vehicle.

Just said that the shooter and the woman were taken into custody while the police sort things out.She will be free before the shooter is. There was no reason to shoot over a bill. Stupid thing to do.

but...... in this case, the life of the guy hanging on top was at stake. Which takes precedent? Inalbisiahi last night
Had the shooting occurred with no the rider on top, the mechanic might not collect
If the shooting was to save the life of the guy on top rather than collect the bill....... perhaps that is a different matter.
Either way, the Escalade is out of service in the impound till it gets sorted out. Then if the repo guy shows up, it will remain even longer

It’s really not the safest way to stop the vehicle and save his life.
Stupid moves all around. Which I appreciate.

Plain crazy. Never did that
or blind folding the driver and talking him through driving
Never did that either.
or driving cars without windshield wipers in Houston rains
Did that in Cleveland snow quite often.
and cars with no brakes,
Did that up until about a month ago with my 2000 Sable.
towing cars with 4 chains on the freeways,
Did that but had white knuckles and a shaky brake foot all the way
or flying off the big bump on the country road at 120mph, repeatedly, on bald tires that were bought used,
We used to call that the "end of the earth". But we'd only get up to about 60mph. I could never do 100mph, my entire body shakes.
all before seat belts and air bags, and when the dashboard looked like a work bench that OSHA wouldnt approve?
Think you've got me by a few years. My first car was an '82 Chevette....an entire car that OSHA would never approve.
Cars used to be the center of our lives, and today some kids dont even want a drivers license.
True. I see it a lot around here. But here are a couple contributing factors that I believe have removed teens from cars in Ohio.
- Laws now restrict anybody under 18 from having more than one non-family passenger. I remember in HS piling about 6 friends into a station wagon to go to an away football game. Or getting a ride home from wrestling practice with four teammates. If, unlike us, we have a decent kid who generally wants to follow the law, he has to forego the "car as the center of our lives".
- Driver's Ed (required for all under 18) is a scam. About $400 to see 30 year old movies and ride with a sketchy and/or perverted driving instructor.

The shooter didn’t understand what centrifugal force does to a bullet. He’s watched too much TV.

My most expensive car is my current one, a 2003 Honda Accord that I bought for $8,500
I cannot imagine spending $60,000. If I could afford that then I could afford the repair bill so I figure this lady must have felt she was being ripped off. Of course I would not have driven off....
