A Native American man found dead in a New Mexico field last week near the Navajo Nation reservation may have been mauled by a pack of as many as 10 dogs, police said on Monday.
Gallup Police Department spokesman Rick White said the man, who did not have identification on him but appeared to be in his mid-40s, was found by a passer-by.
We do not have a definitive cause of death yet but it appears he was attacked by dogs, White said, although he could not give a precise cause of death. There definitely were defense wounds from dog bites.

New Mexico PING!
Maybe coyotes.
Maybe he died, and the stray dogs or coyotes decided to feast on his corpse?
“defense wounds from dog bites”?
Did the guy attack the dogs?
A friend of mine, who works and travels exclusively in New Mexico, has told me many times of the loose if not completely wild dog packs that roam the reservation near Albuquerque. If they are hungry or threatened, bet your sweet bippy they will kill.
Pretty easy for the experts to tell the difference.
I have been in the woods around Albuquerque at night. The idea of coyotes made me nervous, but I never considered packs of dogs.
I’m a good friend of man’s best friend, but even I will admit there are times when you have to hunt them down and exterminate them like... well, dogs. And that’s it.
There is a similar problem associated with northern reservations in Canada.
Woof
They are a whole lot worse. At least coyotes have some fear or respect of people.
El Chupacabra?
Skinwalkers on the lose!
I once saw a pack of wild dogs bring down a deer, and man is far less nimble, and, unarmed, far less able to defend himself.
Chupacabre!
“White said the man may have fought off the dogs then succumbed to the single digit temperatures in Gallup on Thursday night before his body was found on Friday. The body was taken to Albuquerque for an autopsy.”
But I thought that dogs are perfectly man’s best friend? Never offend anyone?
People need to respect the dog, not love it. Do not ever forget they can kill, and as carnivores are meant for it.
Skinwalkers on the lose!
That occurred to me, too.
