Big deal...that’s what buddies are for....
This is a nation of morons longing for a nanny state with a strong authoritarian rule.
It’s been about neo-prohibition since at least the mid-80s. That’s why the founder of MADD left the organization and lobbied against it on behalf of alcohol industries.
Prohibition was never her goal.
The CDC is already preparing the studies to push the standard down to 0.05 BAC (on the way down to 0.03BAC). Sweden’s standard is 0.01.
There have been calls for a 0.01 BAC standard for all people working in a bar (including the performers).
If you get a DWI/DUI and are on probation you are already prohibited from drinking alcohol .
By the time the state is done with you after being convicted of a DUI, drinking is about the only thing left that one CAN do.
This is yet another example of how we already have enough dammed laws.....
Anyone who has repeated DUI convictions is not going to be stopped from drinking alcohol by a law that prohibits them from buying alcohol. The only thing that would stop an active alcoholic or drug addict from engaging in dangerous behavior is some type of enforced, controlled living environment, period.
Actually, it’d be simple to enforce. You walk into a shop....you get carded, and it must be a OK state-license if you are a OK-state resident. Out of state folks? Pass on through.
You get arrested and get a guilty situation....new license and it as a DUI emblem on it....no booze sold any state shop or bar. Get caught buying for a friend? Earn four weeks in some county jail.
Personally, I don’t see a problem in doing this but admit it opens up a whole new arena of thinking. For someone over 300 pounds....maybe I could limit them as well. For smokers, maybe I could limit those folks too.
That’s as unreasonable as the gun control act of ‘68 barring any and all felons from ever having a gun.
Sheesh. It’s enough to drive one to drink.
I’m sure illegals without licenses will still be allowed to buy alcohol.
I’d be happy if DUI convicts were required to pass a bicycle safety course, you know - the difference between right and left, what a one-way street sign means, etc.
Another unconstitutional idea that will go nowhere.
They will have a bunch of 40, 50 and 60 year olds with fake IDs.
My wife was falsely accused of a DUI. I was in the car with her so I know it was false.
After $22k and a year and a half she got her full acquittal and the Judge threatened to contact the Bar on the prosecutors. The officers involved were reprimanded.
(Oh, she spent 13 hours in jail, too, even though I had already bailed her out before she arrived at the station.)
For her, $22k and her name was more important than the plea deal they kept pressuring her with.
If this bill passes and she had accepted that plea deal then she would not be able to purchase alcohol in OK?
Unbelievably stupid.
Does this mean stores that sell alcoholic beverages will have to ID all customers? Currently they only have to ID those who look to be underage. In Texas if you look to be under 27, the clerk is required to make you produce an ID to prove you are 21 or older. I actually got carded when I was 40. I still look considerably younger than the calendar says I am, but no one ever asks me anymore for an ID when buying alcohol. I don’t think retailers are going to like having to look at every customer’s ID every time a customer buys alcohol. I often buy beer or wine at a supermarket, and it can be a hassle to go through the self serve checkout, because as soon as I scan an alcoholic beverage, someone has to verify that I look old enough to buy them and then enter a code to unblock the self-checkout terminal. It would be an even bigger pain if I had to actually show my ID.
Wow, what’s up with Oklahoma? Weren’t they the one with a bill that would cause a $500 dollar fine for wearing a hoodie? Tyrants.
Gu... Guess’ *hic!* guess I go-
gotta
g-*hic* drive-
dr*hic!*
Drive to k-
ka-
Kansas now.
Alaska puts a red stripe on your drivers licence, it is why you are carded every time you buy. Seems stupid to me to take away the car but not the drugs. Once they are drunk they don’t care about not having a driving permit.
It disgusts me whenever I see “Conservatives” of all people pushing for big government, and more senseless laws.
....”Big Government is just FINE, as long as it’s OUR Big Government.”.....
It can’t work. To enforce it each liquor store would have to check every patron that comes in. They can’t do it. Okies still haven’t grasped the concept of passing lane vs slow lane. There’s no way they can do a background check on everybody who buys booze.
