Here is the BO statement on the murdered cops via Politico:

“I unconditionally condemn today’s murder of two police officers in New York City. Two brave men won’t be going home to their loved ones tonight, and for that, there is no justification.”

I ask people to reject violence and words that harm, and turn to words that heal — prayer, patient dialogue, and sympathy for the friends and family of the fallen.”

Now here is the statement on sportscaster Stuart Scott:

I will miss Stuart Scott. Twenty years ago, Stu helped usher in a new way to talk about our favorite teams and the day’s best plays. For much of those twenty years, public service and campaigns have kept me from my family –- but wherever I went, I could flip on the TV and Stu and his colleagues on SportsCenter were there. Over the years, he entertained us, and in the end, he inspired us – with courage and love. Michelle and I offer our thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues.

My count may be a wee bit off, but I see 88 words dedicated to two murdered cops (who were targeted by a thug) and 92 words for a sportscaster.

All deaths like these are sad, don't get me wrong...I just find the equivalent treatment interesting.

Local Miami station, Fox affiliate I think, did more than 3 minutes on his passing in a half-hour news show. I think when Reagan died he got about half that.
