PARIS (AP) Hundreds of Russian sailors pulled out of a French port Thursday, bearing perfumes for their loved ones but lacking the controversial bounty they came for: a 1-billion-euro, French-built warship that has become a hostage to the biggest East-West conflict since the Cold War.
The Vladivostok helicopter carrier is part of a strange and divisive arms deal now on hold and perhaps on the verge of collapse because of the conflict in Ukraine. France built it for Russia's navy but is now having second thoughts, notably amid heavy U.S. criticism of the deal.
After months training on the ship, the Russian sailors left the port town of Saint-Nazaire empty-handed. The ship, painted with Cyrillic letters reading "VLADIVOSTOK," floats in a dock, unused. A second ship meant to be part of the deal is there, too, an expensive diplomatic embarrassment.

To: MeatshieldActual
It was a joke related to the Charles de Gaulle, the French carrier that lost a propeller in the Atlantic on 9 November, 2000.
To: Billthedrill; MeatshieldActual
Lost a prop, had problems with the deck coating, propulsion problems.
It was as if it were built by drunken union workers in their spare time.

It may be a solid & practical ship, but it ain't elegant either.
In fact its one ugly mother.
BTW I wish we'd start installing super firing turrets on our ships again. They look cool.

Sure, its ugly, but not a bad value for 1 billion euro. I heard that the Israelis are in the market for assault ships.

"the Israeli are
in the market"
sell it to them, that really would "piss-off" all the goat-humpers,
in the region/Middle East. It would make them squeal.

Too many goat-humpers are living in France.
It will be politically difficult for France to sell the ship to Israel.
You remember all those burning Peugeots and Citroens a few years ago?

Yes..I remember them, the French should have forceably expelled every last one of them.
Then reduce every building of those Muslims ghettos to Sanitary Landfills. Their Mosques
would have been leveled and let Churches and Synagogues constructed in their place.
If (the inmasculated) Goat-humpers, want a wider conflict, give it to to them, while
Western Civilization has the resources. Let the (9/11/1683) Battle of Vienna continue.
