I hate the sins and the sinners

I have never understood why people ever feel compelled to say they hate the sin, but not the sinner. I think it was Jesus who first said those words, so I suppose Christians want to present themselves in the best possible light in hopes of getting a place with a pool in Heaven. Even though I’m not a Christian, I’m certainly willing to grant that Jesus was a much nicer guy than I am. Still, it seems fairly obvious that without sinners, those pesky sins would quickly disappear.

To my way of thinking, Barack Obama is the single biggest sinner in America. I don’t believe that anything he says or does is in the best interests of our nation. Instead, everything comes down to partisan politics with this schmuck, whether it’s attacking the police, refusing to green-light the Keystone pipeline or trashing the Constitution. On top of everything else, he sets a bad example for young people by being a hypocrite and a serial liar.

The idea is conveyed unambiguously throughout the Bible. To start, look at the way Jesus responds to sinners. He loves them.

Sorry, I didn’t catch the sarcasm. But, good remark.

The Lord Jesus Christ is a friend of sinners (thank God!), but when He befriends the sinner He doesn't leave the sinner in a sinful state. "Go and sin no more" were his parting words to the woman He prevented from being stoned and after telling her that He did not condemn her.
If the Lord is our friend - and has saved us from a well deserved and earned eternity in hell - we will seek to turn from our sins and seek to please our King and Saviour.

The Lord Jesus calls sinners to repentance. He has no use for those who insist they are righteous and of no need of repentance.

Unfortunately, that is everyone, my FRiend...Rom. 3. And, evidently, God hates some of us...Rom. 9.

Reading comprehension involves the act of deriving ideas present in ways other than those that are simply and explicitly stated in a concrete sentence. In fact, ideas presented in such a way are often more relevant and powerful than something taken directly from a verse.

1 John 2:9-11

He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness still.

He who loves his brother abides in the light, and in it there is no cause for stumbling.

But he who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

Because ALL of us, even Christian believers are sinners, not worthy of the mercy of God.

The expression is credited to St. Augustine.

Originally “ With love for mankind and hatred of sins. “

But Gandhi used the expression “ hate the sin, not the sinner “ in his autobiography so that is where it really came from in modern origin.

This I know. Bleeding hearts always quote non-existent or twisted Scripture. Some of them mean well but they will have to answer for the misquotes. We are not given the power to judge who is going to hell nor what The Almighty will choose to do with those who mock him. However, we are given the gift of discernment when we accept the gift of God’s sacrifice.

“Love your enemies and do good to them” does not include consorting with, participating in, or supporting evil. Many of the modern day “support” programs are exactly that; supporting and enabling. That’s where so many corrupt the meaning. The Gospel is a hard line in the sand against evil, not a surrender to it. Following Jesus is a hard road, not the skip down a sunlit path that modern day deceivers are making it out to be. Jesus forgave all manner of sin but he also said “go and sin no more” afterwards.

Interesting topic.

God hates sin. He hates it so much He’ll mercilessly torture unrepentant sinners for all eternity.

But we’re to love sinners because we have no idea who God will save, so they could eventually become our Christian brothers or sisters.

The best way we can love them is to command them to repent of the sin they’re engaging in and have faith in Jesus Christ. In other words, give them the Gospel.

Burt, as a Jew whose beliefs begin and end in the Old Testament, can’t understand all those other moving parts.

I know what you posted is the word of God. But it also means a death sentence here in the real world. But who am I to argue.

Closest thing there is to it is Matthew 5:44.

It’s another man-made up BS line just like libs enjoy quoting the “Constitution says Separation of Church & State”....... No it doesn’t.....

I know what you posted is the word of God.

Amen.

But it also means a death sentence here in the real world.>

Really? Perhaps there is a need for fruitful discussion of what it means to "love".

But who am I to argue.

Arguing with God is fruitful only of one listens to Him.

Ancient Israel killed their sinners—we used to. Look at what has happened once we stopped.

Luke 10:

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” 28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.” 29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ 36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” 37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

John 8:

2 At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground. 9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?” 11 “No one, sir,” she said. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
