Observe how Erdely responded to a question about the accused parties in Jackies alleged gang rape. In that Slate podcast, when asked who these people were, she responded, I dont want to say much about them as individuals but Ill just say that this particular fraternity, Phi Kappa Psi its really emblematic in a lot of ways of sort of like elitist fraternity culture. Its considered to be a kind of top-tier fraternity at University of Virginia
Its considered to be a really high-ranking fraternity, in part because theyre just so incredibly wealthy. Their alumni are very influential, you know, theyre on Wall Street, theyre in politics.

Everyone knows Rolling Stone is a rag - now time to focus on the University’s administrators response and statements, and the fact they happily swallowed a 3rd rate movie-script-pretending-to-be-journalism as truth, and acted on it.
Look around....Time, Newsweak, National Geographic, Ladies Home Journal, Readers Digest....they are all marginal now. If they survive....it’s on the barest of threads. Subscription levels are way off from the 1980s levels. So, what of the Rolling Stone folks? You can’t tell me that they are any different. The last time I bought a copy of Rolling Stone was in the early 1990s. And in terms of reading a copy...I had a dentist who’d lay out his copy and probably last read one around 2007.
If someone drags them into court and gets some hefty sum from the judge’s view....just a mere $5 million might collapse Rolling Stone. All over a stupid UVa rape story.
LOL! Because Rolling Stone set this fiction at UVA, it made it easy for the Wash. Post to go down there and check it out.
Well, on the other hand, maybe they thought the Post, being liberal, would turn a blind eye.
Well, not so much this time.
Whereas if it had been say U. of Nebraska, eh.
Much better!
....but reading the story, everyone in the fraternity is a gang rapist. Clearly, according to the story, to join the frat, you need to rape an innocent woman.
They are all violent rapists.
I will not be surprised if it turns out Erdeley did not just "act as a stenographer" for the "victim's" story, but actually helped her make it more compelling and dramatic.
Which, ironically enough, may have helped bring the story down. It was just too good and too dramatic. Fit all the liberal stereotypes too closely.
That they agreed to the demand not to interview the accused was such a poor journalistic decision. How would they know if they were not being set up? The insistence that she would not tell her story unless they agreed to only repeat her side without checking the facts suggests they were being played. And they ended up looking like fools as a result. Jann Wenner should fire them all.
This is a boatload of civil and financial liability right here. Lawyers are beginning to circle like vultures...
Good !
“Its considered to be a really high-ranking fraternity, in part because theyre just so incredibly wealthy.”
It was all about taking down some rich white guys. Truth be damned. There is no truth to these people. Marx said there is only class interest. With the cultural Marxist it goes beyond class to include their favored groups. Whatever it takes to advance the cause is “truth”.
For people who supposedly deplore stereotypes and profiling, the Left sure relies on stereotypes and profiling.
I guess that's because we normal folk don't behave in the manner assigned to us by the Left, so they have to make it up.
“LOL! Because Rolling Stone set this fiction at UVA, it made it easy for the Wash. Post to go down there and check it out. “
exactly. sad but true that actual journalism was contingent upon convenience.
Lots of claims that Jeff Bezos has libertarian leanings, and there has in fact been a subtle shift in some of the stuff WaPo publishes since Bezos bought them.
