LA Landslide: Republican Bill Cassidy Gains Ninth GOP Senate Seat in Win Over Landrieu
Townhall.com ^ | December 6, 2014 | Cortney O'Brien

The 18-year long reign of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) has finally come to an end in Louisiana. In a landslide victory in Saturday’s runoff election, Republican Bill Cassidy defeated the incumbent and captured the ninth Senate seat for the GOP, capping off a victorious midterm election for his party.

The road was rocky for Landrieu from the start. The public found out about her improper use of taxpayer funds, then the fact she doesn’t even own a home in Louisiana. Then, she dissed her constituents. Because of all her missteps and Cassidy’s growing lead, Democrats quickly gave up on Landrieu after the general election on November 4. Now, it’s clear Louisianans have given up on her as well.

And with that, this very long midterm election is over.

So quit. Give up. If it doesn’t make any difference, why are you here?

You know, that's a good question. What say you, huckfillary?

I think you're on the wrong site, and have been for 14 years.

As far as immigration reform is concerned, conservatives should be advocating “Open Borders-—No Benefits.”

Your F-ing whack dude.

This is NOT a Republican site.

If the poster is looking for Republican interests, FR is not the site for them.

This is a conservative site.

You said...
“Recent history supports my pessimism. Every time the GOP is in a position to fundamentally change things, they cave, they capitulate, they cower, they kick the can down the road.

I stopped voting a long time ago. Why? The GOP never does what they say they’re going to do, and the Democrats always do what they say they’re going to do. When the GOP becomes genuinely anti-establishment, anti-crony-capitalism, anti-foreign intervention, anti-Fed, pro free enterprise, pro school privatization, and balances the budget without a tax increase, I’ll be optimistic.”

I get were you're coming from. The GOP took control of the House early 2011 and yet we still have ObamaCare, gov. is still growing, BHO is still out of control with seemingly no opposition.

And having Boehner and McConnell back as Speaker and new majority leader doesn't bode well

Sen-Elect Cassidy summed it up best in his victory speech:

"This victory happened because people in Louisiana voted for a government that serves us, that does not tell us what to do," Dr Cassidy said.

He can include the rest of the US in those ringing sentiments.

The Republican midterm sweep left 1-2 slivers of coastal territory and splotches of interior to Dems. From the looks of the map, Democrats control votes in inner city gangland strongholds, sleazy Hollywood motels, landfills, Indian reservations, pineapple plantations, Boston beaneries, coastal clam shacks and surf shops.

What the Republican takeover looks like as of midnight 11/5---Alaska is Repub, LA went Repub Dec 6. (Map courtesy of http://www.nationaljournal.com)

FROM SEA TO SHINING SEA A sweet irony---the "party of the people" lacerated, and dumped, by "the people."

If you are surrounded by graffiti, payday loan mills, check-cashing joints, low-end fast food places, and overpriced convenience stores and gas stations where the cashiers conduct transactions through an iron grate, and where most people speak broken English at best, you know you are in a Democrat area.

Of course, the Democrat elites don't live anywhere near those areas. They live in tony suburbs with gated communities and upscale shopping and restaurants. They depend upon the urban poor for their votes and have no interest in improving their lot out of fear they might start seeing the conservative point of view, should they start acquiring wealth and success.

"The public found out about her improper use of taxpayer funds, then the fact she doesn’t even own a home in Louisiana."

Well, the NOLA mediots and other mediots in La. kept that little secret re her not owning a home in Louisiana for a long time.

How many rat bastards in state legislatures and in Congress don't own homes nor live in their districts or like this B$tch not even living in the state, which elected and reelected her?

Excellent summary. I did a minor editing suggestion:

Last but not least their spawn don't go to public schools or universities, in spite of these elites controlling those schools.

True, according to all that has passed, the same stupid, cowardly fails will continue. When “we” had both houses of congress and the presidency, we accomplished exactly nothing conservative. Instead, we expanded government entitlements and grew the debt, just like “them”.

Nothing will change unless and until the people change. And that means repenting before God, and obeying his word. Our leadership is a reflection of who we are as a nation. Right now we are a rebellious, prideful, fat, dumb, and happy bunch of sheeple.

God can do this if we want to follow. Otherwise, not so much.

I have seen story after story about this election - AND NOT ONE OF THEM SHOWS THE VOTE COUNT OR THE PERCENTAGE OF CASSIDY’S WIN.

I’m sure the left is trying to hide the numbers, but shouldn’t the repubs be using that number to show the Citizens of this country that some voters do know how to vote ..??

All I ever heard was that Cassidy was leading by 24% or some such number .. can anybody confirm anything ..??

That is because only Fox News.com and the NY times reported the percentages. ABC, CBS, CNN and PMNBC only reported how many seats the Republicans will control

-- snip --

Landrieu, who was seeking a fourth term, trailed by double digits and had lost most of her support going into the election. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting late Saturday, Cassidy had received .
