Sales of leases on 8.1 million acres of federal oil and gas parcels an area larger than Massachusetts and Rhode Island combined are on hold because of worries that drilling could harm greater sage grouse... the U.S. Bureau of Land Managements delay on the parcels underscores just how much is at stake for an industry that finds its future inextricably intertwined with a bird once known primarily for its elaborate mating display.
The grouses huge range, covering portions of 11 states and an area more than four times as big as New England, includes vast oil, gas and coal reserves and the best type of windy, open country for developing wind power.
Were not real happy about it. Its not even an endangered species

Sage grouse receive frequent comparisons to the Northern spotted owl, another imperiled bird that stirred a fight over logging

we definitely cannot let this stop our energy development and independence.
however, after looking up just what a “sage grouse” is,
it turns out its a little bird that lives under sage bushes (of which there are millions!)
anyway its a pretty looking little bird. and it is remarkably human behaviour-wise, too.... see WIki quote below.
SO, anything we can reasonably do to help the little fellas, ....?
————from Wiki website::
“Greater Sage-Grouse are notable for their elaborate courtship rituals. Each spring males congregate in leks and perform a “strutting display”. Groups of females observe these displays and select the most attractive males to mate with. The dominant male located in the center of the lek typically copulates with around 80% of the females on the lek. Males perform in leks for several hours in the early morning and evening during the spring months.”
the overlying issue is energy independence for the US (or the lack of it).
The environmental angle is simply a weapon to allow them to do that.
Birds and Polar bears are "controlling factors" for the enviro whackos. Bald eagles and polar bears are overabundant now.
Good point... how do they know this will chase the grouses out?
“Its not even an endangered species”..
It WILL BE when the next gubmint report comes out. I hunt in Wyoming every fall and these past few years the BLM has been clearing land with the “hopes” it will open up the areas to more and more of those “non-endangered” grouse. IT’s labeled, “The Grouse Rouse” by most of the locals.
Oh, I am told they are good eating..........mostly dark meat.
oh, man you totally beat me to it.
I believe I’ve seen 2 at my place, loads of Chukkar too.
Birds and other wildlife often love man made structures.
For several different reasons.
The left hates that Krugman’s peak oil theory is being publically destroyed.
