Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is intent on pulling out all the stops to block President Barack Obama’s executive action offering deportation relief for up to 5 million unauthorized immigrants. The pioneer of the 2013 government shutdown is pushing congressional conservatives to defund the president’s action in a must-pass spending bill, and has declared that “not a single presidential nominee” should be confirmed to any post if Obama moves forward with his “illegal amnesty.” On Wednesday, Cruz sank to a new low in his anti-immigration crusade, attempting to drive a wedge between Latinos and African Americans.

Speaking at a press conference today, the senator asserted that Obama’s immigration policy is “fundamentally unfair” to black people.

“Amnesty is fundamentally unfair to the millions of legal immigrants who followed the rules and came here legally,” Cruz said, per Talking Points Memo’s Daniel Strauss. “Amnesty is fundamentally unfair to the 92 Americans who aren’t working here right now. Amnesty is fundamentally unfair to the African American community that’s facing historic unemployment.”

The great warrior for racial justice may not be aware that the economic literature shows that immigrants actually don’t rob other groups of jobs, despite what many conservatives cynically claim.

If Cruz is actually interested in addressing African American unemployment, there are a number of policies he could support: eradicating institutional inequities in the criminal justice system, massive investments in public education and job training programs, public works projects, and beefed-up enforcement of policies that aim to combat workplace discrimination.

After destroying the best health care system in the world, Obama is determined to grant wide amnesty to foreigners living illegally in U.S. If Obama wants to make the U.S. into another banana republic, it seems he is well underway to reaching his goal.

The Republicans must make it perfectly clear that Obama has declared a merciless war against the American workers and the middle class of America. There are 92 million of able Americans out of the work force because they cannot find employment and Obama wants to legalize and give work permits to over 11 million illegal aliens allowing them to bring here the rest of their families. In other words, another 25 or 30 million that either will compete with Americans and legal immigrants searching for scarce jobs or are going to be added to welfare, bankrupting Medicaid and the food stamp system as well as ruining even more the quality of the public schools with the massive infuse of hundreds of thousands of children without speaking English to already overburdened schools systems.

I’m guessing “92” should be “92 million.” Of which 55 million are women. Let’s be sure we know which groups are being hurt by this. I don’t have the figures handy for the young, or for recent college graduates in particular.

To say illegals don’t take the jobs of Americans is misleading. While they may not take the very same jobs that Americans would like to have, they skew the labor pool toward lower wages by flooding the market with the unskilled. It’s “trickle-up,” if you will, unemployment.

Any dope could see that. We don’t need the brilliant statisticians who determine that we’re not trying for the same jobs.

My local restaurants, from fast-food to white tablecloth, are thick with probable illegal employees. Those are not exactly “jobs Americans won’t do” now are they? I was an HR rep in a cell-phone refurbishing plant several years ago. Almost all the temps were probably sans green card.
