On April 30, 1995, William S. Lind published an op ed in The Washington Post that foresaw a future breakup of the United States, driven by multiculturalism. The piece described not only Americas second civil war, but also a recovery of our traditional, Western, Christian culture. That cultural and moral recovery was led by a new country located in the northeast, which named itself Victoria because it had returned to Victorian values.
Mr. Linds op ed has since been turned into a book, Victoria: A Novel of Fourth Generation War, by Thomas Hobbes, the well-known theorist of the state and author of Leviathan.

Well the guy was right about the coming of CWII but it won’t be the Northeastern Socialist States Of America. They are too far down the Commie tunnel.

Like I said, Wow... Great stuff... And a good read, and the deeper stuff like 4GW...
But... Can we please have YOUR permission to discuss trivial stuff like the premise that the Northeast will become the “conservative” part of the USA and the South will be like Watts, Los Angeles with macho black guys insolently scowling at Caucasians males as they sweat nervously and gulp? Because we DO disagree about that!
Pretty Please?
;-)
in the northeast?? hahahahaha!!

Does this thing exist as a physical book?
I don’t agree with the premise of this book. I think his time periods are off and his scenarios are anachronistic. He’s speculating this will happen around the 2060s.
I recommend reading The Fourth Turning. We’re about a decade from a major crisis. 2060 will more probably be just after a cultural change period, like what the 1970s were like.
He’s describing military equipment that will no longer exist and cultural stereotypes that, even now, are gone (Korean and Jewish shopkeepers).
The story might be more believable as an alternative history set in the 1960s.
I don’t think so, at least not yet. IIRC, it is available in EPub and Kindle format. The 35 chapters on this site are not the full book, but they do pretty much have the “meat” of what 4GW is and examples of how to carry it out.
You can talk about whatever you like. I'm just trying to encourage people to not get bogged down in the incidentals of the fiction, and to instead try to grasp and understand the points about 4GW.
No, the story takes place starting about now. The 2060s you see in the preface are several decades after the primary events in the book.
I finished the First Book this afternoon. Damn but I had written that.
Thank you for posting about this book.

Religious tyranny is not a conservative ideal. It is no better than any other sort of tyranny. Nothing of value is being "conserved". Freedom is non-existent. Reason is not integral to the decision-making process. Religious tyrants are just like any other tyrants, with or without the fashionable attire.
Religious tyranny is the same as communist tyranny, in that all of a society is controlled by a small group of fanatics who dictate the terms of existence for a multitude of other people.
Obviously you don’t know what you’re talking about because obviously you didn’t actually read the book. Therefore, your comment is useless.
Thanks, good recommendation. Long, but really worthwhile. Interesting illustration of the cultural interface of war.
Interesting thread, this many years later.
Robert Heinlein the future historian also described the break up of the United States in his book Friday.
He pretty much described where we are today
For later
