Study Suggests Genetic Link for Male Homosexuality

A large study of gay brothers adds to evidence that genes influence men’s chances of being homosexual, but the results aren’t strong enough to prove it.

Some scientists believe several genes might affect sexual orientation. Researchers who led the new study of nearly 800 gay brothers say their results bolster previous evidence pointing to genes on the X chromosome.

They also found evidence of influence from a gene or genes on a different chromosome. But the study doesn’t identify which of hundreds of genes located in either place might be involved.

Smaller studies seeking genetic links to homosexuality have had mixed results.

this is ridiculous

even identical twins of gays aren’t normally gay at all

there is no gene

The article admits that studies trying to link homosexuality to genetics have had “mixed results,” yet I always hear it proclaimed as a FACT that genetics determines homosexuality.

A weak gene that helps prevent breeding to push the weakness forward.

Since they can’t reproduce, based on the numbers, it would have weeded itself out.

The key problem with this study is how does it control for the fact that brothers will obviously have a good deal of genes in common. Also with genes and complex behavior we are always dealing with propensity not certainty. Human beings do have a choice to make concerning the way they conduct themselves sexually. Also since so many gay men in particular reports sexual abuse I wouldn’t be surprised that incest plays a key role in many of these “gay brothers”. I had a bunch of puppies and one day I caught them ganging up on the runt of the liter trying to hump him.

What these genetic determinism studies fail to acknowledge is the role of the individual in making the right choices dictated by reality regardless of desires. Is a man to be excused of rape because he is predisposed to higher levels of hormones making his desire for women more intense or do we instead have a culture that teaches all men they are to control those desires and make right decisions? There is great danger in the focus on genetic determinism as a license of bad or simply incorrect behavior. If you are born a boy then the reality of that should dictate to any thinking person that a boy should mate with girls and vice versa. Just because on is boy with a delusion that they are super man wouldn’t make it so no more than being born with a compulsion to have sex with the incorrect sex makes it right. Its still an aberration and it still should not be indulged.

Ignoring the identical twin studies again.

I read the same book however it also made clear there was not one contributing factor to homosexuality or sexuality in general. Regardless it does not mean that individuals do not have choices also human beings are attracted and turned on by many many different things. The idea that a person is not responsible for how they indulge or react to their desires is dangerous because it attacks the very essence of free will. Do we excuse men who see attractive women from raping them or cheating on their partners? The reason we have cultural norms and things that reinforce them is so that people learn to control themselves whether it is potty training or sexuality.

Previous studies on alcoholism and other complex behaviors show it is highly unlikely that any strong connection to genetics will be found. Also one must realize that regardless of what is found one always have free will. Once you decide that free will does not exist then the idea of free society and liberty is really silly.

I agree to an extent. I have heard a number of gay men who have claimed they were molested as children or young adults by gym teachers or priests. Far too many to be a coincidence.

Its actually impossible. If you believe complex sexual behavior in humans is entirely genetic and they do not have a choice then all concepts of morality break down. How can you expect rapists not to rape, cheaters not to cheat, or child molesters not to molest? They were born that way. Its a really bad concept. We know that people can have sexual desires that they choose not to indulge whether it is to honor marriage, chastity, or simply because it doesn’t make sense. How many men haven’t seen a hot babe that they had a physical desire for that they choose not indulge or pursue?

I also have known many people who have moved from one end of the spectrum to the other. One professor in particular had a real problem hooking up with his female students and cheating on his wife then after many years he hooked up with a male student. I know more than one person who suffered sexual abuse as a child. Sex is not a clear thing and the idea of believing that genetics provide a morality free license to do what ever one desires is dangerous.

If they prove it is genetic, that’s not good for the movement.

Homosexuality would get in line with many other genetic maladies waiting for a cure. It would be a sickness. What would follow is they’d likely find pedophilia is a related GENENTIC illness, and again it would be something you could cure.

Suddenly, the idea of choosing whether you want to recover from the disease of homosexuality becomes legitimate. Transgenderism would also likely follow.

As soon as people realized it was a disease, all support would move from ‘accommodation and equality’ to the research for a cure. Every conservative on the planet would give money in search of a cure, and it would point out that any accommodation (especially Gay marriage) falling outside the Americans with Disabilities Act was simply wrongheaded and should be stopped.

The LGBTQP movement is the new union rallying cry. It’s the last real payday for the tort bar. It has extended the expiration dates of ‘Race Cards’ in liberals wallets everywhere.

If all of a sudden it becomes a disease - something that with money and research could be cured - that would support the world view of every religious zealot since the Fall of Rome: that homosexuality is sick. Pedophilia is sicker.

Turns out, maybe, the Bible-thumpers were more correct than they suspected, and moreover, through Christian charity and love, can move billions in support of a cure for those poor buggers.

Hard to establish a definitive answer to whether there is a genetic component to homosexuality. If it is ever proven to be true, it sure will be interesting to watch resulting chaos. One thing we do know is that not all of homosexuality is caused by those around them, growing up. I have known two individuals who by the age of 3 behaved in a manner that made me believe they would be homosexuals. Both are.

I would not be at all surprised if some of the "sissy boys" we all knew in school turned out to be gay. The slippery slope comes in when we consider how much of our personalities are present from birth, and what do we do with those traits. One may be predisposed from birth to be homosexual, narcissistic, or even violent. That does not make it a good thing that should be nurtured.

And yet another study proved the opposite following twins separated by adoption.

Regardless, it’s a sin. I am genetically oriented towards heterosexuality including adultery and fornication and those are still sins, too. Regardless of how I’m oriented.

“I want to see a study of men who were raised without a father. “

Do a study on boys sexually molested by males as children. That’s your indicator, right there.

Homosexuality is an extreme narcissistic personality disorder usually caused by being sexually molested at a young age and/or being in a dysfunctional family with an emotionally distant father and a domineering mother.

Well, I am aware of situations that indicate what I stated is, in fact, true.

Young children are, for the most part, a blank slate when it comes to sexuality.

And if those children are exposed to sexuality too early, results can go awry.

Especially if that exposure is the result of molestation by an adult or molestation by another child who was molested by an adult.

So let’s say, for example, that 6 year old Billy was molested by has dad extensively, or some other adult in his circle.

And then Billy then in turn molests another 6 year old child who came to spend the night innocently as children often do.

And that other 6 year old child, who has no previous knowledge or information about sex at all, likes it.

Guess what behavior was just learned at a formative age...
