A new law in Saudi Arabia banning ‘tempting eyes’ has become the latest example of female oppression in the country.
The law, which states that women with alluring eyes will be forced to wear a full veil, has been branded ‘stupid’ by dissenters and roundly criticised on social media, aina.org reports.
Sheikh Motlab al Nabet, spokesman of the Saudi Arabian Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, said they ‘had the right’ to force women to cover their face.
‘The men of the committee will interfere to force women to cover their eyes, especially the tempting ones,’ he said.
‘We have the right to do so.’
Many commentators wondered how the word ‘tempting’ would be applied. One unnamed journalist in the country suggested it referred to ‘uncovered eyes with a nice shape and makeup.’
‘Or even without makeup, if they are beautiful, the woman will be in trouble,’ they added.
Prince Naif, whose impending ascension to the Saudi throne many hoped would spell an end to this kind of draconian oppression, looks likely to be as intolerant as his father King Abdullah after suggesting that any Muslim should support the Committee’s new law.
‘The committee is supported by all sides,’ he said.
‘It should be supported because it is a pillar of Islam. If you are a Muslim, you should support the committee.’

There doesn’t seem to be any tradition of self discipline in muslim societies, they actually need to be kept in line by threats. I suspect that Saddam was custom made for the job.

I’m surprised that there isn’t a requirement that “tempting eyes” be gouged out or sewn shut. Better that then having pure-of-heart Muslim guys be sent down the Road to Perdition.
Well, I suppose they won’t be able to drive cars any more, what with the veil over their eyes and all.

maybe, but here, men on college campuses who have “wandering eyes”, are disciplined for leering.
so in Saudi, extremist men rule, in America, extremist women rule. I guess planet wide, its a wash.

This is brilliant! No woman will want to admit that she doesn’t have Tempting Eyes, so all women will voluntarily wear veils....and nobody will have to be cited!
In fact....I foresee a competition amongst the women to see who can wear the heaviest veil....soon they will all be stumbling around completely blind....
Which raises the question....wouldn’t it be more effective to just gouge out all the men’s eyes? After all, a veil might fall off.
Guess the next step will be if a male were to look at that shapeless blob and said ‘Shes Hot!’, she is a candidate for stoning.
Yes ladies of the Western World and Libs everywhere, if you don’t think these people will be trying this shiite here, you have another thought coming.
They have already made it so PUBLIC SUPPORTED POOLS with admission - have to ‘give’ them an afternoon or so a week so they can enjoy the pool without “US” staring at them.
Uh, I have the sort of ‘shape’ (well pear and round are shapes aren’t they) that not only puts wearing shorts out of the question, I also do not appear in public in swimsuits, or tight fitting clothes.
So, if you don’t want them ‘laughing’ at you stay home.
