Congratulations, Republicans! You won the Senate majority! Now, can you hold on to it for more than two years?
Looking at the 2016 Senate map, theres reason for doubt. Republicans will have to defend 24 seats, compared with 10 for Democrats. And the raw numbers dont even tell the whole story. Seven seats held by Republicans Florida, Illinois, Iowa, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin were carried by President Obama in 2008 and 2012. And there is chatter about potential Republican retirements in Arizona and Iowa. If either John McCain or Chuck Grassley decided to call it a career, each of those races would be major Democratic targets.

Jeeze, our Senators don’t even get a chance to warm up their chairs and they’re being called LAME DUCKS.
The HUGE PROBLEM for the Democrats is that the Republicans may just figure out that if they can win 70% to 80% of the white vote, then NOTHING ELSE MATTERS, as there still are not enough minorities to stop them.
That is EXACTLY what happened in Texas and all of the South. Republicans are now getting 75-80 of the white vote. Yes, there are a lot of blacks (Louisiana and Alabama) and a lot of Hispanics (Texas and New Mexico), but if the Whites vote as a block, it’s GAME OVER for the Democrats.
...they have to know that, but they also know that there is NOTHING THEY CAN DO, other than trying to flood the country with people that may be unfriendly to Republicans (and that is not as easy as it sounds).
Will Hillary even survive Gowdy’s next Benghazi hearing Dec 6?
Gopers In Trouble
1. Ayotte - lost her tea party base from 2010.
2. Johnson - lost his tea party base from 2010.
3. Kirk - Illinois, he is a RINO.
4. Toomey - PA
Dems in Trouble -
1. Harry The Body Ried - He will go up against a more formidable challenge that Sharon Angle.
There's also amnesty to consider — the GOP has signaled that it wants it and I'm wondering if the split
on the [threat of] impeachment is just more of the same Kabuki theater we saw in Fast and Furious and the IRS scandals. (I suppose it could be worse, the flat-out ignore like they gave with the NSA.)
I think Jonathan Gruber ensured the Republican win already.
Flipping 5 seats is highly unlikely, plus we have a couple we can potentially pick up. They probably will pick up 1 or 2 for sure from Blue States in a presidential election year. If our margin was more like 52-48, it would be a real concern.
WI and IL will be tough to hold. Ron Johnson may be able to hold on with a good campaign and some help from the three-time winner Walker. Plus Walker could well be on the national ticket, which would be helpful to Ron.
too soon
do we really have to have perpetual campaigns
McConnell, Cochran, Perdue, Roberts, Susan Collins, Tillis, Graham, Alexander, Cornyn, etc all won with comfortable margins.
Most are RINO’s from what I have seen.
Ditto x 10
I am sure the consultants think we do.
We need action NOW.
“Offer him anything he wants.”
Anything? Hmmm...
Cilliza just can’t get out of pre Nov. 4, 2014
“Carried by Obama” carries no weight anymore and two more years of his ministrations to the nation make him even more unpopular.
Maryland went for a Repub Governor and Mikulski must really be thinking over whether it’s worth it.
Patty Murray is on crumbling earth and a likely defeat.
Nothing succeeds like success, and if the next two years play out well for the American voter, despite the stink of Democrat ideas, looks like a good time for GOP incumbents.
they haven’t even taken over yet and their demiss is already being written....
A damn political consultant.
The GOP needs to act on principle right now and let the results dictate their political future, instead of the other way around.
This is craziness, they haven’t even been sworn in yet!
BE HERE NOW DUDES BE HERE NOW.
IMHO this guy Cillizza is the journalistic equivalent of an attention whore. He deliberately writes weakly-thought-out but intellectual-sounding articles for the express purpose of tweaking conservatives with the sure knowledge that there will be never be any sort of consequence for him being right, wrong, dead right (unlikely) or dead wrong (my view)
Bunch not your panties nor briefs over this one. He’s just another in a long line of zeroes.
The raw math favors the Democrats, but many other factors do not. Insiders are telling Hillary that she is a lock on the Democrat nomination, but will likely lose in a head to head contest with the Republican nominee. It’s hard to imagine the Democrats regaining the Senate if they can’t put Hillary in the White House. But, 2016 is two years away and there are many cards yet to be played. At best, the Democrats just have a good opening hand.
