Candy and I enjoyed a double date with Bill and Laura Cassidy tonight at Ye Olde College Inn in New Orleans. Thanks to the Blancher family for hosting us and to Jimmy and the staff for a great New Orleans meal! Congressman Cassidy and I had a positive discussion concerning our shared love for our country and for Louisiana. We also spoke about important points of public policy including the ongoing situation in Bayou Corne, the REDEEM Act, and Sen. Lee's Conservative Reform Agenda... I even encouraged Bill to take a look at our Contract with Louisiana and to hop in the truck a join me in Bayou Corne to learn more about the challenges facing the displaced residents. I shared with Bill some thoughts on ways to grow our party and keep our elected officials more connected to those they serve. Before it was over, Bill even helped me put a new bumper sticker on our Truck. Looking forward to joining with Congressman Cassidy and Senator Rand Paul this Monday at noon in Baton Rouge at Huey's, 350 3rd Street! You're all invited; I hope to see you there! --

What a class act.
Good news! Start working on 2016 today!
yes- but why couldn’t this have happened before Tuesday??? regardless- credit to Col Maness.
I’ve been voting regularly since I was first eligible in 1988. Many, many times in the intervening years, I’ve voted against people more than I’ve voted for somebody, but my vote for Col. Maness last Tuesday was one of the proudest votes I’ve made in my life.
Colonel, we expect to see you in 2016, running for the seat vacated by David Vitter when he runs for governor.
You now have everything you need to win that race, and Washington needs a strong voice like yours representing Louisiana.
It appears fan favorite Elbert Guillory is likely to run for Lt. Governor, which sounds very good.
Sen. David Vitter will be running for governor next year. I would love to see Col. Maness run for his seat.
I wonder why Mary and her date were not invited?
He he he I get to vote the commie out twice!!!
Our problem is going to be if Vitter tries to pull a fast one, leave early and appoint some party-approved hack to the seat who would then have an advantage in the special (think ST John Kennedy), for the purpose of clearing out a potential challenger.
He has been more conservative recently. He should be lobbied to let the voters choose their next senator. If he does, and Maness runs, then Maness will be the frontrunner.
Vitter is running for Governor. The election is next year (October, 2015). He is going to win. He will appoint his replacement to serve out the remainder of the Senate term, which ends in 2016.
would he appoint maness?
Imagine if Mike Castle, instead of being a selfish moron, had walked alongside Christine O'Donnell....or if Richard Lugar had been nice to Murdouck in Indiana....
I know those are too examples of RINOs being ungracious, but let's face it: we true conservatives on the policy side can also be very ungracious when we lose, too....
Look at what happened when McConnell won against his tea-party opponent.
These two Louisiana men are showing what things OUGHT to be like.
God bless 'em.
What if he retired from the seat and they had a concurrent special election?
Vaguely recall the College Inn from my days at Tulane. Never did go there, as it was not in the most convenient of locations.
If Vitter becomes governor, and I am not certain he will, I don’t think he would appoint Maness to the Senate, probably Scalise instead. Colonel Maness did not win a single parish outright Tuesday, but he did as well as he could for one lacking name ID.
I don’t know. Vitter’s been in politics here for over 20 years. I imagine there are many political favors that he owes, and also owed to him. Maness is a relative newcomer, and since he got but 14% of the vote statewide, that isn’t exactly a big block of votes with which to bargain for a Senate seat.
I’m not saying he wouldn’t be a good pick, I’m looking at the political reality.
All IMHO, of course.
