Should Target put "Alex"the Frisco, Texas, kid getting a lot of Twitter love because of his Bieberish mug and the pure randomness of the Internetin an actual ad campaign?
"Why not?" answered Will McInnes, CMO of Brandwatch. "Social media is a powerful and direct avenue to consumers. Given the velocity and reach of the #AlexFromTarget hashtag, there are a number of marketing and ad campaigns that Target could execute, for example: store appearances by Alex or Alexs picks for clothing and seasonal items. They could even use Alex to showcase Target's corporate culture."
Scott Deming, a branding expert, said, "It really depends on how they position it. If they hire him purely out of response to the online frenzy, they'll be viewed as reactive and pandering to their customers. If they hire him [for ads] and say, 'We're more than just a pretty face,' and position it as looking at people as valuable, beyond their looks, then that could work."

It boggles my mind.
Will he be a one hit wonder or will Target be able to market him. Oh, if he could only sing..he could be the next Bieber
so when did target start hiring 13 year olds?/
“Alex from Target “recently gained fame as an Instagram sensation for reasons beyond the comprehension of any sane person,” according to Urban Dictionary, CNN reports.”
r reasons beyond the comprehension of any sane person
THE OBAMA of SOCIAL MEDIA!! :-?
So how much should #AlexfromTarget ask for per year - $5 million?
They have gotten 5 million of publicity out of this. I would be a bit concerned about it if I was the Mother of Alex. People are posting his phone number etc. It will probably blow over by tomorrow but it really is crazy.
They can put WHOEVER they want in their ads. I am still NOT shopping there.
“She can put Target to God — she gobble gay”
(Gangnam style)
It’s difficult to find a retailer of any size that hasn’t done or isn’t even now something markedly wicked.
If Target wanted to make money, they would be better served abandoning MCX and publicly adopting Apple Pay, Google Wallet, etc. while making mea maxima culpa ads admitting how they completely screwed up on data security and have learned their lessons.
His hashtag is number one in the world right now.
Same here. I have teenage sons. If I was this boy's mother, I would be very concerned, too.
One third of his “followers”/stalkers are men.
Corporate Homofascism is sick.
Either this is all a viral marketing campaign or else his employer is exploiting him.
This is an excellent opportunity to revitalize the brand with a younger demographic. Right now, I'm not sure how many teenagers are thinking Target for their fashion choices. This offers a chance to bring some "hip" to the brand.
If they can play their cards right, Target is sitting on a goldmine of an opportunity here.
Alex is still number one trend on Twitter.
I agree. Target could do something with this if they play the hand they have been dealt in a smart way.
I will be shocked if they capitalize on it in a smart way.
