Barcelona (AFP) - Ebola has wiped out whole villages in Sierra Leone and may have caused many more deaths than the nearly 5,000 official global toll, a senior coordinator of the medical aid group MSF said Friday.
Rony Zachariah of Doctors Without Borders, known by its French initials MSF, said after visiting Sierra Leone that the Ebola figures were "under-reported", in an interview with AFP on the sidelines of a medical conference in Barcelona.
"The situation is catastrophic. There are several villages and communities that have been basically wiped out. In one of the villages I went to, there were 40 inhabitants and 39 died," he said.

Sargent Morrow: “OK guys, let’s get this stuff off the pier and into the trucks to be taken where it can do some good”.
Warlord LT Imbuieki: “This is our pier and we demand payment”.
Sgt M: “I would have to talk to your leader, is he closeby?”
LT Imbu: “Yes, here he is, our forces are strong.”

Thank you — wtd.
OUR people are lying, and so are the people in Africa. I looked at the recent WHO report, and in the same week they said Liberia has turned a corner, the report said Liberia did not give figures for most of the week’s tallies.
I think your concern is well founded. I do not want our armed forces there though I recognize the need to get a proper fire break in place to stop this outbreak. If Ebola gets to India and/or China it will go around the world. There will be no stopping it. I hope we have contingency plan to stop it at Suez, the Med, the Atlantic, and the Pacific. I do not believe we will be able to stop Ebola on the ground in Aferica. Just my opinion. Hope I am wrong.
Why? No one is sick and they're not in danger.
Confirmation of what?
Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your dead! The Dark Man cometh! Bring out your......
(Since all records of obama's past were lost in a tragic boating accident and fire, no one can be certain that the guy in the red circle isn't him...)
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
This is like the black plague.
obola doesn't repect anyone and is intent on losing all our friends.
If you don’t give the figures, then your numbers can’t be counted so you’re doing great. Much like obola’s unemployement figures, etc.
A link to this thread has been posted on the Ebola Surveillance Thread
Expect this to hit the news after Wednesday
There was a gal that spoke at our church. Years and years ago she felt called to minister to amputees in Siera Leone from their war(s). She gave both physical and spiritual direction. She became a direct advisor to the President of Siera Leone on the situation with the amputees.
She has been in the states for several months on one of her regular leaves of absences. She received a call from the President to come back sooner, and help with the Ebola crisis. As much as we think think it is “foolish” to go into harm’s way - many do it all the time.
I pray that, with our soldiers and volunteers, that they will be given the training and equipment to do their jobs safely, and that proper waiting times will be observed for their return home.
Thank for the ping, but, to clarify, that article confirms there are US soldiers in Italy. It does not state they have ebola, thank goodness.
Maybe the people keeping the stats are all dead, too.
